As far as secure erasing the SSD, I think I will try this next time https://ata.wiki.kernel.org/index.php/ATA_Secure_Erase

It is for how to use hdparm from Ubuntu live.

I don't know Linux well enough for that. I've read that tutorial before, but don't feel confident enough.

I have messed about with Ubuntu a few years ago, I wasn't an expert or anything but I think I should be OK to follow the instructions...maybe. If not, I can just use hderase - I still have it on a bootable USB stick. I want to try the linux way so I don't have to start yanking out the power lead.

I am going to do a fresh install tomorrow, I have had so many problems with this install I just want to start fresh.

Sometimes it's easier and faster to do a clean install than to try to fix a messed up one. Trust me, I know. I've been there too many times.

Yep. :)

I will be glad to do it even though it's a hassle. :geek:

This way is specific to OCZ SSD's but I thought someone might find it useful

Bootable Tools for OCZ Vertex2/3, Agility2/3, Solid3, Revo, and Ibis SSD's

OCZ Toolbox won't update my firmware for some reason. Hopefully I can update firmware and then secure erase this way, might be an issue with having a wireless connection though.

edit
I just updated the firmware using this so tomorrow I know I can use it for secure erase - easy. :)

Here is a good tutorial on how to reinstall. Yes I do not have a system reserved. If you follow the tutorial with the exception of the 'clean all' command it will work great. It will show you how to use diskpart with the installer. I align at 1024, but any alignment divisible by 4 will work. create the partition and align and put no size if you want the SSD to be 1 partition.

Here is an example. Disconnect all hard drives except the SSD, so you will have only 1 drive connected and it should be disk 0. My example, I have several connected, you won't.

Then type exit and push return, you'll do that twice and be back at the 1st screen
