Solved My Computers Colors Are Messed Up.

White backgrounds are blue:

Black backgrounds have a grainy red color:

And + It only shows on my monitor. If I take a screen cap, post it online and view it on another computer, the colors are fine.

It is not a virus, it is not screen resolution, I've tried everything.

Also, It's only a certain shade of white and black.

If its #ffffff, then it changes to blue.

If it's #000000, then it changes to a grainy red color.

However If it is something close to #ffffff or #000000, then it doesn't change, it's stays normal.

Since it's only displays like this on your monitor and not in screenshots, then it seems like it's a issue with your monitor itself.

If this is a external monitor, have you reset the settings on the monitor itself back to default? There may be a button on the monitor somewhere to open the on-screen settings to have a option to reset or adjust them.

From the bottom pictures it looks like a monitor backlight fault at the bottom, but AFAIK this doesnt corespond with the top image. Have you tried updating your graphics driver?

Also, I have a laptop, so replacing the monitor isn't easy

Actually laptop screens are not that difficult to replace (if you are comfortable stripping and assembling a laptop) if not then they can usually get them done for £50 - £100 in repair shops (little more than the cost of the screen).

Get the latest graphic drivers for your system Here. To find out which one you need, type "device manager" into the start menu and run it. Then expand "display adapters" to get the name (or series) of yours.

Okay, do I have to download the one thats in the device manager? or can I download a newer one?

Ughh, The colors are still messed up.

And like I said, it's only 2 colors. SMH, annoying.

Well there is one additional test you can do, if you have an additional monitor or access to one.

And that's basically to see if the color disparity appears on another monitor as well, if it doesn't I would also consider the possiblity the connection inside the laptop to the monitor has gone nutty. ...but yeah if an external monitor doesn't display the same problem.

Well, I tried taking a screen shot of the messed up colors, and posted it on another forum.

When I looked at it on my ipod, the picture I took was normal, it didn't show the messed up colors on another device.

I know it's the monitor.

There is a small possibility of a problem with the internal connection to the monitor... though it'd have to be a pretty specific one to result in your exact problem.


...more than likely you are looking at a monitor problem here.

Is the laptop still under warranty?

If so, you should contact the manufacturer to get a RMA for service. Opening the laptop while under warranty could void it.


If not, then if you know how to, you could open the laptop up and check the screens connection, or have a computer repair shop take a look at it.

Otherwise, it may be time to either get a new laptop, or get/find a separate monitor to connect the laptop to.

Okay, thank you guys for the support, I appreciate it.

I will definitely take it into best buy and get it checked out.

If worst comes to worst I'll just have to remove the monitor and connect a new one to it.
