Intermittent BSODs on 7 month old Acer laptop

I get these BDODs about once or twice a month. The only real pattern is they seem to happen just before a windows update.

the PC an Acer aspire 5742 X64 based with Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU M 370 @ 2.40GHz, 2399 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s).

It has 4gb RAM and 250g hard drive

attached is the minidmp and JCgriff files

any help most appreciated

Typically caused by a bad block in the paging file or disk controller error.

Lets run a chkdsk, and a sfc.


Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

A- CHKDSK /R /F:

Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.

Do this for each hard drive on your system.

When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.

Then reboot and let the test run.

It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.

See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.


B- Elevated Command Prompt:

Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)

At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"


C-CHKDSK LogFile:

Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.

Double click on the Source column header.

Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

I ran the SFC/scannnow tests and all were OK and the scfdetails.txt file was blank. Here is the cut and paste of the

CHKDSK seems ok. SFC will say one of three things at the end. Found no errors, fond errors and repaired them, found errors but was unable to repair them.

no more BSODs, but they usually only happen when or before a microsoft update is due to take place.

I looked at the mini dmp file but I'm afraid it doesn't mean too much to me - have you any idea why it these fields are highlighted (see attached JPG)?

Blue screen view is not always accurate. I dont recommend it

Another BSOD happened tonight - once again it preceded a windows update notification. This time there was no minidmp file. The info on the BSOD was
