Most of the good raid cards are very expensive. The 620 is very cheap and gets only mixed reviews. A good raid card can cost several hundred dollars (US).

Okey, so in other words i could take a chance and buy the 620 card or buy a more expensive card that is more likely to make a difference. But which card then, could you give me an example? :p

Check out Newegg and read the reviews. This is the high point 620

It seems like it´s 50-50 if it works or not  but i guess i have to take a chance. On other reviews it seems like the card gets good results with fairly good speeds.

It seems as most of the ones who want a raid card are not impressed, but those who use it for extra ports are mostly satisfied. But, I still don't think it gets better speeds.

Then i think i will try to if my money after bills payed will allow it. As i´m only going to use it for better speed on one drive. But i have seen that the chip 9182 is better as i uses two x1 lanes, but i havent found any card with this chip yet, only motherboards.

It uses 1 X1 lane and is the same chip you have now. The theroretical MAX is 500 GB/s for X1. which is nerr what you have now. If connected to 2 HD/SSD it is theoretical 250GB/s. I don't see how it will help you. And those speeds are not actual speeds, just highest possible.

So you dont think i will get any better 4kb and 8kb speeds than i already have and therefore i wont feel any speed change?

Not really, but it is your money and you can try if you want. At the very least if it works, you will have 2 more sata III ports. But, I really don't feel you will be any better off than you are now. and what you have now is not bad at all.

Your 4k and 8k will not increase speed.
They are limited by the SSD.
If 4k and 8k could go faster they would also be going 300-400Mb already.
They could go 100 or 50 very easily your Marvell controller will more than allow that speed.....
.... but unfortunately the SSD can't go any faster at 4k and 8k.

So unless you need extra 6Gbs ports you are wasting your money.

End of story.

Okey then, two more extra sata3 ports wouldnt hurt to have and if i find the right card i could also get two more USB3 ports :)

That is sound words, i havn't thought of it like that but if i do buy a card perhaps i should try to find a card that also has USB3 ports ;)

Again thanks for the exellent experience and clever thoughts from you all, it has been most helpfull.

I´m so glad i found this forum :p:geek::cool:

Great scores.
In fact I think those scores top the Vertex 3 IOPS at $300.
I know it is a lot faster on the 4k/8k.
My Intel out does the IOPS on 4k.

Excellent set up all around!
Enjoy!
Mike

I was planning on getting the 64GB M4 as well for my new build in Nov.

However, yesterday i got a very unexpected gift :)
A 80GB Intel 320 Series.

Just got it installed, and just imaged my 40 drive over to it and extended it.
Much more room, and even put the PF back on the OS drive. Faster than the 40GB too.

ATM Im using the 80GB as the OS drive and have the X25V 40GB set as a secondary game drive.
I just move games Im currently playing from Steam directory to it, and create a junction.

Which leads to me wonder if I should just keep it as is, or go ahead and grab a M4 for the OS and use the 80GB Intel for a secondary game drive.

How are the M4s over long term?
For example, my Intel drive would keep its performance (albiet slower overall) over months of use and restores. I expect the same from the 320.

I am happy with the 320 though. Still just shows a 7.6 in WEI, same as the x25V did. But a clean install may possibly bump that up.

I haven't had mine for very long, so long term I really don't know. Mine is 2-3 months old and still gets 7.9. So far, I am happy with it. Of course, I have an Intel X25-m and a vertex2. They don't score as high as the M4 but would be happy with them also. I really don't think the M4's have been out long enough to really get a good idea of long term.

I wouldn't worry about an Intel X25 or 320 series as long as it scores over a 7.0 or 7.2. On my desktop, my X25-M G2 80GB scores a 7.8. On my laptop, my 320 series 80GB scores a 7.6.
