The DSL service I just got rid of was a blazing 300kb/s.
The Gowisper I just installed is a sound barrier busting 400kb/s.

I can go to any of the speed test sites and they all say I am at 2Ms or better.
I am on a 5M hookup and the drop is measured at 2.5M and better.
My connections is direct from the receiver, no modems.
My Ethernet is built into the ASUS motherboard.

Here is the joke.
I do not care what I am downloading or from what site, I get 400kb/s and that
is it. There can't be that many busy or slow servers.

Am I missing something very basic?

I'm going to assume you mean to capitalize the KB (KiloByte) for your download speed, most browsers uses Bytes not bits. If so the result is what I would expect from a 2 to 5 mb (Megabit) connection. When you convert 5 mb into bytes it comes out around 600 KB. So at 400 KB you are getting around 3 mb.

I think I am a little mite embarrassed.
As opposed to a bit, which is smaller.

3.27 megabits equals approximately the speed you are getting.
Bit Calculator - Convert between bits/bytes/kilobits/kilobytes/megabits/megabytes/gigabits/gigabytes.
It comes out to around 400 kilobytes/sec or a little less even depending on the measurement standard in use.

You have to realize all these online tests are measuring in (b)bits not (B)bytes and there is a big difference.
For a comparison my line is right at 10x's yours and I get right about a 4megabyte a sec download cap. (generally closer to 3.5)

Sadly your results are typical for standard DSL, I've actually seen 4g get better speeds than some dsl lines.
My friend on at&t's super uverse line gets at best a 600 kilobyte/sec download rate... and it never holds at that, the longer the download goes the slower the speed gets.

Thanks for all the input everyone.
Guess I will have to live with "slow", cuse it ain't enough reason to move back to the big city.

What you have to remember, whatever speed the ISP guarantees, is ONLY between you and the ISP. Once it gets to the ISP and out to the "cloud" it can and will vary. And there are a lot of potential areas that can affect the throughput or transfer rate. e.g. you can get a slow server and that can knock your downlink way down to even dial up transfer rates; or a slow or congested link from the remote server you are downloading from or any link or router between the remote server and you.
