"Always Stay Signed In" Option Never Seems To Work: Why ?

Hi,

I visit several sites where there is a sign in required.
They have a box for "always stay signed in"

I check it, but it never works, and I always have to re-sign in.
Same is even true for Google stuff.

Any idea what might be preventing these always stay signed in's ?

Well, they want to establish a "cookie" with your Browser which provides the information needed from visit-to-visit. You must somehow have "accept cookies" turned-off or otherwise blocked for specific sites.

Hate to appear dumber with this stuff than I am, so will blame it on old-age.

I found various places that have the option of "allow cookies", and
also to "allow third party cookies".
I have both of these options checked to "allow...".

What I have not been able to find is an option for allowing, or not allowing, cookies to remain after leaving. Where (exactly) should I look, please ?

Looking at your system specs you are using Windows XP ?
another thing we need to know before we can help is what browser you are using ?

Either allow the cookies or use LastPass instead. It takes a small delay as you auto login. But on the plus side it's easier to avoid tracking cookies if you only allow sites you visit frequently by using the White List feature of whatever browser you are using.

For the other sites just set LastPass to auto login.

In IE you can accept 1st party cookies and session cookies; just block the 3rd party cookies.

By definition, a cookie is something that stays behind even if you turn off the computer. That's so you can return later to a website and the website can reinstate some of your information. If the website gives you the option to stay signed in it should do that. In many cases you may have to let IE save your password when it asks if that is what you want. If it doesn't ask, you many have to reset IE: tools/internet options/advanced/reset (include personal settings).

Of course, once you reset IE, all the personal settings for all websites will be deleted and you will be starting over. That's why I use a program intended to let you delete the login information for an individual site; having done so IE will ask the question about saving the login data for just that site: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/internet_explorer_password.html

Is it allowed to post msg's with a small pix taken with the "Snipping Tool" to show some of my present settings ?
I think my Cookie settings are (all) what was suggested, but might be a good idea for someone to verify.

Will also try that new program that was suggested.

Certainly not a big-deal, but sure would be nice if I didn't have to continually sign in
for all of these sites. Must have something set wrong, but darn if I can figure out what.

Yes images are allowed when replying click on the paper clip icon

I'm using the Firefox Nightly version of Firefox it will probably be the same in your version.
The picture will show you where the setting's are to clear cookies on exit.

My usual browser is Opera where it is much simpler because it has a delete new cookies on exit option. On the top left of the picture there is the biscuit extension which should do what you want.

From OP: Automatic Log Ins (Firefox)

Hi,

Here's what I have (Firefox)


Can't imagine what's wrong.

Also, tried LastPass.
Can't get it, either, to do anything regarding any kind of automatic log ins.
Have the Account and their log-in all set up, and I can go to their page that shows my links, but won't do anything in the way of filling in the logins when I go to the actual URL.

In fact, it (LastPass) is so dead, that when I click on their opening log in page, where there is a box for "save my e mail" -
I clicked on that, but when I go back to the log in page later, it hasn't even saved that. Wants it again.

Guess we'll just have to continue doing it the old fashioned way.
Was hoping to, at least, have Google Calendar open up easily without having to log in each time.

I'm wondering if this could be due to corruption in your Firefox user profile. My first thought was that you're deleting cookies with CCleaner without realizing it, but then you would only experience your problem after each time CCleaner runs, not on every single browser session as you've stated.

For starters, try creating a new temporary profile in FF and using that. If you find that things start to work properly, we can help you move your
profile information from the old profile to the new (leaving the corruption behind in the process). But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

I can see you tried to upload an image when replying you can click on go advanced & see a preview of your post & make corrections if needed.
Your last post the part regarding auto login's does not help at all.

Have you tried the Firefox extension Biscuit it's supposed to preserve selected cookies.

Have you checked to see if Firefox is clearing the history when it closes?
There is a check box for cookies that should be unchecked.
You can also uncheck the "Active Logins" box.

The other thing about all these browsers jumping version numbers is AddOn developers have trouble keeping up. Sometimes it helps to run FF 5 when the latest may be 6 or 7. LastPass on my FF5 works in snappy fashion.
