Major resolution issue

Hello all, I have never, ever had this problem before. I have a Sceptre 22 inch monitor which runs at 1680X1050. Whenever I reinstall Vista it always sets it to 1920X1080, but it looks terrible so I set it to 1680X1050 (what it was made for) and its fine. With Windows7 same deal. But when I set it to 1680X1050 its really stretched out and I cant see half my screen. I installed the Nvidia beta drivers (I have an 8800GTS), and now im running with some 1152X864 with my screen in a small box in the middle left of the screen. When I set it to 1680X1050, it looks right, but its super left. I cant move it more right. What is going on here?
Also: Everything is blurry

Are you using a VGA cable or DVI? DVI is the better choice if you have it.

I'm not understanding why you wouldn't want to run at a higher resolution if you could...

The Native resolution of his monitor is 1680X1050 and his monitor will be clearer at this resolution and should not even be able to go any higher than that, that's why I asked about the VGA cable because resolutions and positioning don't get recognized correctly when you use VGA.

I know that his native is only 1680x1050, it's also SUPPOSED to be his maximum so if he can get to 1080p there should be a way to tweak it to look better.

I don't know if you have a LCD monitor but by the sounds of it you don't, but if you do try a different resolution and you will find that you loose all your clarity so why would you want a Lower or Higher resolution if the result was poorer image quality.

this is with windows incorrectly reading your optimum res.

i had this with a acer 19 (well not completely the same problem but it was the same idea...)

i had a update on WU for that monitor and then its been running great ever since...

I don't know if you have a LCD monitor but by the sounds of it you don't, but if you do try a different resolution and you will find that you loose all your clarity so why would you want a Lower or Higher resolution if the result was poorer image quality.

I myself have only CRTs. However, I have used many LCDs and have never had a problem with losing clarlity when passing beyond the native resolution, if anything you have to adjust it.

you see with LCD tech you have a screen and set # of pixels....

his pixel res would be 1680x1050 and so that would the number of pixels...

CRT just draws the pixels and unlike CRT it wouldnt matter what res you can try it will be looking like it was natively drawn on a lcd....

this is usually only see in computers (lcd tv's dont count....)

i have two (had have 4 lcd's and a crt)

and i can tell you this is a big issue

While CRTs are capable of displaying multiple video resolutions without introducing artifacts, LCDs produce crisp images only in their native resolution and, sometimes, fractions of that native resolution. Attempting to run LCD panels at non-native resolutions usually results in the panel scaling the image, which introduces blurriness or "blockiness" and is susceptible in general to multiple kinds of HDTV blur. Many LCDs are incapable of displaying very low resolution screen modes (such as 320x200) due to these scaling limitations.

While CRT monitors can usually display images at various resolutions, an LCD monitor has to rely on interpolation (scaling of the image), which causes a loss of image quality. An LCD has to scale up a smaller image to fit into the area of the native resolution. This is the same principle as taking a smaller image in an image editing program and enlarging it; the smaller image loses its sharpness when it is expanded. This is especially problematic as most resolutions are in a 4:3 aspect ratio (640×480, 800×600, 1024×768, 1280×960, 1600×1200) but there are odd resolutions that are not, notably 1280×1024. If a user were to map 1024×768 to a 1280×1024 screen there would be distortion as well as some image errors, as there is not a one-to-one mapping with regards to pixels. This results in noticeable quality loss and the image is much less sharp.

Well as I said I have used MANY LCDs in various places and have never noticed any loss of image quality from not using the LCD at it's Native Resolution. And no, I don't have poor eyesight.

but it is annoying once you use them everyday....

since his video card has support for this resolution....

his display resolution EDID is not being recognize correctly....

To enable the sidebar created a new folder and name it Quick Launch and placed all your shortcuts in that folder and then just right click on the Taskbar and select new toolbar and browse for the folder you just created and once you do that unlock the Taskbar and position it where you want it and then right click on the Taskbar and deselect sow text and show title.

Great idea for creating your own quick launch bar. I hate how when you close pinned programs they stay where you closed them, in the middle of all your other open stuff.

I'm curious as to why it is listed as a 1080p LCD with a Native Resolution of 1680x1050 and is apparently blurry with 1080p. You are aware that 1920x1080 is 1080p right?
