Can't install driver for USB Controller

I had one of my regular BSOD (I'm quite sure its a RAM issue) and nothing unusual ever really comes from it, however today it screwed up my USB controller driver and now I'm perplexed as to how to get a fix for it.

(Windows 7 64-bit)

Windows recognises all of my 8 Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller devices in Device Manager and upon startup it attempts to install the drivers, but fails on each one of them every time. I've tried to manually update the driver and I get the message:

"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.

Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Universal Host Controller - 2935

The system cannot find the file specified."

The file associated with each of these devices is C:\Windows\System32\drivers\usbuhci.sys

I've tried countless chkdsk C: /f in CMD to no avail and my Windows 7 disc did nothing to automatically find a cure (wasn't sure how to find the driver manually from disc). I've been told that the drivers for USB controllers are downloaded through Windows Update however I have extremely limited internet bandwidth and simply cannot be downloading 300mb of updates (I searched and couldn't find anything vaguely matching the description of the driver I'm after).

This is driving me a little mad and I really don't want to resort to reinstalling Windows. I've tried Aida32 to try and find out my motherboard type and it shows as unknown... Does anyone have any advice I haven't tried?

I've just been downloading various Chipset drivers and browsing through the MANY options that windows provides me with when searching for drivers on my computer, however, whenever I try and automatically OR manually install a driver, even when I'm SELECTING THE FILE for the driver, it STILL comes up with that ridiculous message of "Windows found the driver software ... ... The system cannot find the file specified."

What the hell is going on?!

I'm literally begging now... please help.

I've tried 3 different forums without an ounce of progress. I can't even reinstall windows since I can't use a USB device to back up my files before I reinstall! I'm really stuck!

Well, it seems the BSOD/memory problem screwed-up your USB controller driver, doesn't it. Have you tried a System Restore to before the BSOD? Failing that, a Repair Install?

Well, it seems the BSOD/memory problem screwed-up your USB controller driver, doesn't it. Have you tried a System Restore to before the BSOD? Failing that, a Repair Install?

Neither worked. System restore has never worked on this system and repair install always seems to go unsuccessful (even though using the same disc will give a successful installation of Windows 7 complete).

Right clik every instance of USB root and hubs in device manager...and select Remove...
You will see an error message...ignore it.
Do this for all of them and re-boot.

Windows will automaticallly re-install them.

Already stated in first post that I did this. Windows attempts to reinstall them upon startup but every one of them fails every time. Its the controller driver not the USB drivers themselves.

We need System specs filled out in the bottom left corner of your post.

If this is a laptop and you have internet access then go to a place with free wireless to run Windows Updates a few rounds to get the missing drivers. Win7 is driver-complete in its installer and then quickly and accurately updated via optional Windows Updates whicih needs to be functional.

In your case with frequent BSOD's and no System Restore, I would get a a clean reinstall following these steps to get a Perfect Reinstall: Reinstalling Windows 7

Use the drivers given by the installer and optional Updates, only importing those which are then missing in Device Manager from their Support Downloads webpage. This will give a baseline install to work out the kinks by monitoring logs and using System Restources all shown here: troubleshooting steps.
