Acer Aspire One Recovery Problem

Hey Guys,

I am trying to help a buddy out, I never had this problem before on a Acer trying to do a system restore using the software providing with the computer. I did ALT-F10 when i booted the system up. It loaded the eRecovery software, when i selected to do a complete factory restore it would loaded 100% of the restore but when it did the updating system (unsure what it's doing) it would hit 99% and hang although the mouse is moveable. I have searched online and I'm not finding my problem, i am finding similar ones. This is a netbook and i do not have a external optical drive, not willing to purchase this as this is not for my use and my buddy do not have the money to buy one either. I've called Acer and they told me i had to send it in, although I do not think its a problem that it needs to be sent in to Acer, if I put XP on the net book would that work fine. The System Specs are 10.1 inch display, 1.66GHz Atom Processor, 1GB DDR3, 250GB HDD. I think the system would run alot better if XP was put on to it instead of Windows 7 Starter. If any one knows how to fix this it would be great.

You did the right thing with Alt+F10. You can double check in this Acer guide whether you did everything else right.

When i spoke to a gentlemen on the phone from Acer Support, he told me I had to send the laptop into them for them for them to restore it using the CD's. My question is, if i download the recover CD's for this computer and put them on my external hard drive would i be able to restore it that way?

There should not really be a difference of restoring it from the recovery partition or the CD.

Let's go back a step. What triggered you guys to reinstall the system. What was the problem.

The OS did a complete crash and i talked to a tech at 3 different tech's and they said I have to reinstall the OS so i was trying to do it from the Acer recovery software and it keep failing.

Did you try to go back to a previous restore points. That should be one of the options in your Alt+F10

That was not a option for me in my ALT-F10

Have a look at the HDD. Use then bootable flash drive of this program. There should be a 100MB hidden partition (without a drive letter) that must be marked as "active". See whether that is the case. In addition there should be the C: partition and the D: recovery partition. Maybe even one of the Acer tools partitions. Report back what you saw.
