Deleted all shortcuts from start menu accidentally

I was trying to free memory space from hard disk and i unknowingly delete files from
C:\Users\shriram\AppData\Roaming\
C:\Users\shriram\AppData\local
I nearly cleared all the folders from appData which in turn deleted all the short cut links from start menu and taskbar.
I need help to fix it!

Hopefully you just deleted them to the recycle bin. If they are in there highlight them then restore the files by using right click.

Yeah i thought of doing that but i deleted files completely from the memory using shift+delete.

Did you delete the entire contents of the Local and Roaming folders?

If so, you're going to have massive problems with many of your installed programs (or at the least lose all custom settings) and probably with Windows itself sooner or later.

I hope you have a backup or system restore point to go back to. And next time...take advantage of the Recycle Bin. It's there to avoid accidents like this one.

Yeah you are right! I have beginning to feel that now. I have been able to get the basic start up menu items all thank to the good advice. But i am feeling a pinch of not being able get the items stored in my Programs folder to the All Programs in START MENU option. Is there a way to get that done because my restore points are not there!

As for the programs in the program folders you'll have to do it manually one at a time.

The easiest method would be a system restore to a point before you deleted the shortcuts.

You said you wanted to regain space on your hard drive, but you haven't given us any idea of how big the drive is or what's on it.

I have a 80 GB hard disk so i have to delete file manually because most software don't intrude in system directly. I am thinking of getting an external hard disk as i am getting sick of putting data into DVD's. last night had only 43 MB space available on my OS hard disk and it was just then that i deleted files from my AppData folder. It's such a mess!

Did you try restoring to a point before you messed things up?

Getting an external hard drive and transferring your personal data (NOT your system data) to it would be a big help.

The thing for some reason even though system restore is ON but still there are no restore points to select.
I have found a quite apt resolution to my problem. I have been able to create all the appData files by selecting START-> right click on Account name-> Select Include Library-> Create new library. It has automatically created all the folder system that previously there.
