X-Fi Fatal1ty PCI sound card not detected on Asus P8Z68 Deluxe

I have a very weird problem regarding a old PCI X-Fi Fatal1ty (one with front 5.25in I/O bay) soundcard.

The soundcard detects on my old motherboard, Asus P4C800-E Deluxe (running WinXP Pro SP3), but does not detect on my P8Z68 Deluxe (Win7 Pro x64).

I have already disabled onboard sound and tried the other PCI slot (there are 2 PCI slots on the Z68 board), nothing comes up after boot.

I then tried the PCI soundcard on my neighbor's board, a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R and it also does not detect on this board (pheew!)

How is it that this soundcard detects on a prehistoric AGP motherboard and not on either modern boards?

*note* This soundcard is known to act up on my old AGP motherboard when I remove the parts for regular dusting. When I pull the card out and put it back in after maintenance, sometimes it will not detect and it takes a few shutdowns (shutting down and removing the power cord) and reinserting the card before it becomes detected again.

What driver are you using?

On the XP machine I am using the latest drivers from Creative's website. On the Win7 machine I have no sound because I disabled onboard.

I downloaded Creative's X-Fi Fatal1ty driver for Win7 before I started to install the OS so I have all the drivers ready to go. When I try to run the driver install without the soundcard being detected the program says,

Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Please ensure that your product is properly installed before running this Setup program.

Setup will exit.
I did a little Googling and came around this,

It is important to understand that Intel chipsets no longer support standard PCI slots, and the PCI slots are provided by an ASMedia ASM1083 bridge chip.
Does the ASMedia chip have anything to do with not detecting cards in the PCI slot?

*edit* I would like to add that the card does not detect AT ALL, does not show up in device manager as a "?". I feel strongly that this is a hardware problem and not a OS problem.

Probably right. I am probably the wrong one to ask as I have had nothing but trouble with creative sound devices. My old AUdigy was the straw that broke the camels back.

You might ask Creative and the mobo mfr directly.

Thank you for your input zigzag3143 I just thought this was a very peculiar problem as I have never experienced something like this before. Problems like these intrigue me and lead me to find a solution.

Off topic - Would you happen to know how to disable text formatting? When I copy and pasted your screen name it copied everything along with it.

In the reply, for example, when I copy and paste your screen name it is light blue and bolded therefore whatever I type after I pasted is also light blue and bolded. I would like my reply to remain the default fourm text whenever I copy and paste.

Could be! Been so long I forget.

If that is the case you can remove the text formatting by using the AA above the "Bold" in reply. See snip
