Solved Wanted: app to display # of running processes

Does anyone know of a program that can show me the number of running processes (from all users, like in the Task Manager screenshot above) either in a tiny window of its own or in the systray/notification area?

(I'm not looking for a Task Manager replacement or any kind of process monitor - just some sort of counter.)

I have been looking all over the place for something like this. All I have been able to find are Task Manager replacements. Nothing as simple as a plain counter.

Gotta be one somwhere, I'll keep looking.

How about a gadget? If you set it to show only one process, you get a display like this:

Of course you can choose to display more processes, and there are many options for size and color.

Introduction

Ever wondered which program has a particular file or directory open? Now you can find out. Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

The Process Explorer display consists of two sub-windows. The top window always shows a list of the currently active processes, including the names of their owning accounts, whereas the information displayed in the bottom window depends on the mode that Process Explorer is in: if it is in handle mode you'll see the handles that the process selected in the top window has opened; if Process Explorer is in DLL mode you'll see the DLLs and memory-mapped files that the process has loaded.
