Using Monitor to split display?

Using a laptop and have a old CRT monitor. Can I use this monitor to split the display, like half display on the laptop and the other half on the monitor, like there is side by side screens mainly for gaming. The laptop is widescreen and the monitor is some 17''.

I have succeded in displaying the whole screen on the monitor, but don't know about the splitting.

Using the guide, I setup the monitor and choose Extend display. Now, when I move the cursor beyond the boundry of 1 display, it does get to the other display but the problem is the applications and games does not extend to the other display.

I can drag the windows to display 2, but what I want is say when I open an app like MS Word, the half display is on monitor 1 and the other half on monitor 2.
BTW my ATI GPU supports Eyefinity, if I can make use of that.

I guess, yes. The app or in your pic video is completely on 1 monitor and you can drag the window to another monitor or in between as you have shown.

I am trying to get something like this, got this from Google.

About the software that you have mentioned, I haven't tried it yet and will do.

Why would you want to do that? Any FPS type of game would be next unplayable as the crosshair would be slit right down the middle between the two screens.

ah yes two desktops you have to make one monitor primary (that's where your start menu will be) do try the display fusion out and post back with your results
