i have an OCZ Vertex 2E 120Gb, had it for a while now and never had an issue, and i use sleep cycles etc

never bothered with the idle for an hour or whatever, no point as trim is working so dont need garbage collection

however, i have seen a lot of issues with sandforce drives on certain motherboards, not just OCZ drives either

I'm reading this thinking I'm missing something.. When I wanted an ssd every forum was telling me to avoid marvel (and ocz at the time as they had issues) and sandforce was the driver to go with as it didn't have compatibility issues and majority of the first mobos to implement full ssd support were in favour of sandforce.

And these "issues" people are having is probably the age old thing, the people with problems are far louder than those without them. And its catch 22, more sales =more complaints. Sooo maybe that's why sandforce is being slated.

i agree with you, people dont complain when all is well so thats 98% of experiences unheard, and then when you factor in the sheer number of people now using SSD since the sandforce was introduced (co-incided with leap to mass consumer affordability of SSD's) theres simply more people out there with sandforce drives. its a placebo more than likely.

but still, i have been on the OCZ forum since i got the drive and theres typically 2-3 new threads per day with bricked drives i'd say.

I'm just learning about SSD hard drives and decieded to get one at amazon.com which is: OCZ Technology 60 GB Vertex 3 Series SATA III - Windows 7 supports TRIM and I guess this drive supports it also. Before I send off for it I thought I would post first to see if I'm missing anything before I spend a hundred buck?

It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I am still sticking around with spinners - some Hitachi Enterprise Class drives are very fast and have low rotational latency but ofcourse SSD has no rotational latency at all.

For me though, I will be sticking with a single enterprise class hard drive preferablly from Hitachi but if I have the money, I would go with any SSD and just install the OS on it. Keeping all the personal data on the spinner still.

Lol accept they've just passed a law to shoot badgers to stop the spread of tb!! My family!!

Admitedly ocz have had some issues with their products, but they were one of the first if I'm not mistaken. Don't know who makes their drives. They refused to say when interviewed in my favourite pc magazine (pc format)

ai, heard that they have approval for a cull, only trial thus far though isn't it? its a disgrace either way, it was pretty much proven that farmers interacting through market days etc brought more TB to their own heards than the badgers do, don't see them going around demanding a cull on farmers.

The latest Sandforce had real serious issues, especially with the newer motherboard chipsets. Lots of Bluescreen crashes, boot fails and lots of rounds of Firmware updates for OCZ.

There is an element of that involved for sure, but since it's affecting other manufacturers as well; it's a fair assumption that the new sandforce controller is indeed problematic for a lot of users due to a wide variety of variables.

Basically if you're personally not having an issue, consider yourself lucky ;)
