Hi all i am new to this forum :D
I just formatted my windows 7 a month ago and re-installed it . Few weeks ago i changed my modem to Netgear N150 modem + router . After that Most of the websites don't load . Eg : Facebook , yahoo , ms support , etc . I was scanning for any malware or virus but i didn't find any . And i hardly installed software in my computer . Even this forums is not loaded fully . My connection is really bad its oly 512kbps connection but most of the websites load in >10secs but now a days in any browser they are not loading at all. Not loading in the sense they are loaded half or not at all . Otherwise the loading thing is going on and on . It never ends. I checked my connection speed with speeedtest.net and got 524kbps which is my speed . When i download things i get the correct downspeed which i used to get early . But now most of the website are not loaded . I have norton and malwarebytes installed scanned the computer like ten times now . I first taut that dey both wer blocking web traffic and so i shut them down and i didn't find any improvements :'(
Please help me out guys . If you can TV me and check my routers it would be great :D

This happened with a Netgear router I set up for a friend. He uses some kind of real estate software that accesses the internet to generate maps and randomly one day it began failing to connect. I spent hours looking at the computer's firewall and checking the program's settings before I realized it was the router. Something got changed with respect to the traffic it allows.

Were you recently changing any router settings such as the firewall? I can't remember what the exact setting was but I can look into it and see what I changed.

Check there's no whitelist or blacklist function in the router.

Reset it to defaults and rebuild your device(s) LAN connection(s) and rebuild the WAN connection.

That said, be sure it's the router and not something to do with your PC's hosts file or firewall!

No whitelis no blacklist nothing . I tried shutting down the norton firewall and tried the browser there is no change in the loading of the websites . Even if Norton blocked network traffic why would it block facebook and yahoo . Google and gmail works fine not at all times . The Firewall rules i have in my router is has only one rule tat says allow all .

If you're running the PC without a software firewall, and if there's not a hardware based whitelist/blacklist, and you are sure that any hardware based firewall isn't causing the behaviour you're experiencing; about all that's left are...

1) The Windows Hosts file

2) Browser based content controls

There's nothing else I can think of that really seems possible.

So you used this device to replace your ISP's modem?

It may be that you need to use the modem they gave you and then hook the router up to it. My network is set up so that the modem that my ISP (Verizon) gave me is connected to the wall jack with an IP of 192.168.1.1 and from there my router is connected to it and acts as the DHCP server so all of my devices are on the 192.168.2 subnet

I have a few other questions about the issue:

Did this start to happen immediately after you installed the new router or was it working fine at first?
Do any websites load or are they all failing?
What ISP do you use?

Also, is this the device you have? DGN1000

I'm trying to figure out exactly what device you have so I can give you better directions

Windows hosts file consists of only this :
Code:
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
#    ::1             localhost

127.0.0.1 localhost
There is no browser based content controls . I am not sure about the router firewall . I will give you a screen shot of the router firewall page .

Nothing happened before with the previous router everything worked fine for me. Until i changed the router :'(

The one my ISP gave me stopped working . And they said they wont replace so i had to buy .
The problem didn't start immediately for a couple of days it worked fine i guess . I have used to download a lot of stuffs from the torrent and it worked fine. I got my usual speed and still getting the same .
And yes i use Netgear N150 Modem + Router DGN1000 .

I hate to diss on a particular companys hardware, but in respects of Netgear I make an exception.

If it is the DGN1000 they have had a lot of issues. Orange had to replace thousands shipped to ISP customers. It's down to Netgear rubbish firmware.

That model is not the only one I would stop at criticising...

Check for a firmware update before all else, almost all of Netgears woes are due to bugs in their programming and sooner or later it does get ironed out... you might be pleasantly surprised!

What is your ISP? Did you follow the setup wizard to configure the modem with your ISP's settings? Did they specify the settings you should use when setting up the modem?

Also, make sure your computer is set to use DHCP for both its IP address and DNS servers.

Go to the connection properties for your network adapter and select IPv4, then go to properties:
1.bmp

Check to see that the settings are configured the same as in this example:
2.bmp

Once you have done this let me know

My suggestion is a little harsh, but if there's no new firmware for the DGN1000 then get another router.

Right now bear in mind you'll want something iPv6 ready, with decent firmware, and a better reputation that some, or most, or what Netgear make.

One router I can wholeheartedly swear upon is mentioned in my system spec's... ;)

Any chance you could have gotten some sort of malware? I ask this because I ran into an issue the other day at work where one of our employees was trying to access a few sites and kept getting redirected.

He would open up IE and search for something from his Yahoo homepage, the results would appear but as soon as he clicked on something he would get redirected and couldn't access any sites.

Can you create a brand new profile on your computer and then try accessing your sites? If this works then you'll just need to remove malware from the profile you use

I had the same idea so i tried logging into my other user acc . And i had the same problem . I taut tat it affected that profile too so i logged into safe mode. Still i have the same problem i think that the problem is with the router.
