For others who need to add drivers with the free version 5 and after their use of the trial version has expired you can
Add and Remove Drivers Offline with DISM.
It needs to be added to your winpe.wim base from the WAIK download.

New Macrium 5.0 may require a new Linux Recovery CD.

I'm not sure the old WinPE or Linux Rescue CD's will work .

To be safe I made a new Linux v5.0.4196.
After burning to test CD. Shut down PC and then start it up and let it load to check the CD. It took about a minute or so to load, be patient.

Hard drive partitions on the Linux CD show different letter arrangements than Windows so just look on different partitions if it isn't where you think it should be per Windows.
Windows shows my Mac images on "G" and Mac Resue CD showed it as "F".

When you are ready to leave the CD just click the ( X ) if ESC does not work.

I have an earlier version of 5 and could never get a Linux disk to boot, though I made Linux discs using all possible methods. So I went with a PE disk and it works---I just don't know if I want to jump through the hoops required to make a PE disk again.

Do you happen to have an old PE disk you could test on this new version--at least to see if it will even boot and show your image files and partitions?

You can knock up anew pe disc easily enough - I made a liitle app to do it - without using WAIK.

Otherwise, you can easily update the one you already have - just mount the wim and replace the files with the new ones - there are only a handful of files in there.

I'm a rather dim bulb, so "easily enough" may not be easily enough for me. At any rate, where is this app so I can see if I have enough IQ points?

Being a dim bulb, I have little notion of what you mean by your second paragraph.

If in doubt, I would assume the old disk will NOT work and I would then have to decide whether or not to upgrade Macrium. Not many things worse than assuming an imaging app will work only to find out you are dead wrong.

This is all I can do with my new disk. I wasn't going to actually set an image today.

If the old disk won't even find the new images you know you definitely need the new disk.

The old disk should access and set the older images.
Like the new image I made today may not work with an older Rescue CD.

I'm just being safe. I now have three Macrium Linux Rescue CD's. Three CD updates three new CD's.
I am sure not throwing away the old ones.
They may never be used again but they are there with the rest of my "tools" on CD's.

Also remember I said the old CD's MAY not work with the new images or software.
I just don't know.

You also do not have to update the software if your not having problems. Stay with the older version of Macrium.
I was ready to go back to the old version if I had problems with the 5.0.

This continual new version stuff is wearing on me, just as it is with Firefox.

I've never restored an image with Macrium and hope I never have to.

I'd gladly stay with old Macrium versions for the rest of my life if I knew for a fact that I could continue to use the old versions to make and properly restore the new image files I make every month or so.

But I don't know that for a fact. The implication of new versions is that at some point your old versions will no longer be viable. And I'd like to know when that might be rather than being rudely made aware of it during a failed restore attempt.

I grazed the Macrium forums maybe 6 months ago and don't recall any authoritative info on the point.

I'd prefer to be able to use a Linux disk rather than a PE disk, but Linux disks have not booted for me since Macrium 4.

Is there a tutorial about that or do you know of a site, which has a good explanation/"how to".

I was scanning the "Ultimate Boot Disc" forums last week, but everyone commenting there, acted like everyone knows how to do it.
That attitude even applied to the people who were asking how to do it.

Especially the new versions, which use giant buttons "optimised" for tablets!

Pre-Macrium 5, you got a table of drives and partitions with everything nicely lined up.
I screenshot the Macrium status page and include it with my backup images.
For example (from August 2010):

Now you get stupid tiles, spread horizontally, so you can't easily scan the results.
As a result, I re-imaged my Programs partition to get Macrium 4 back.

The Linux disc has always worked for me.

I downloaded it, unzipped it, ran it, created an ISO, burned the ISO to a CD, and then booted from the CD.

After a few minutes of loading, I came to a nice looking screen with a kitty on a motor scooter--and a double column of buttons which when poked led to certain other apps or windows.

I'm not sure what it all means as regards Macrium. There was no "Macrium" button. The only image-related button led me to Windows own imaging, which I don't use. I'm not sure I should randomly start poking buttons when I don't know the likely result.

But I'm on record as being a dim bulb.

All I know for sure is that the disk created from SIW's app is bootable.
