I need to shrink my C: drive that contains my windows 7 OS.I have already preformed a shrink using the windows 7 disk management tool.It will not let me shrink further.I have downloaded and installed both mini Partition Wizard and EASEUS Partition Master 9.0.1 home version to use. They both appear similar to GParted, which I have used. They are on a second internal hard drive.I have an image of the first hard drive, in a logical partition, on the second hard drive.

I do NOT have any installation disk for windows 7 as it came pre-installed on my computer.I have made the windows 7 REPAIR Disc and the Hp RECOVERY Disc set(3 disc) in case there is a major problem with the shrink.

Questions:In your opinion, with partition program would do the shrink with the least amount of possible problems considering I have NO installation discs.

If the shrink works,I then want to move all unallocated space to the far right of my D: drive (Hp Recovery partition)

Is there a problem having an image on a logical partition,if I need to fix my First disc?

I hope this makes sense, first post here.

Hello Etsum, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Image backups should be kept on a separate physical HDD instead. Otherwise you risk not being able to restore to say the C: drive/partition. Plus, if that HDD dies, you will also lose your image backup.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Sorry for the confusion but the image IS on a separate internal hard drive (Drive 1) not shown.I was wondering if the image had to be on a primary partition of any drive instead of a logical partition.

Partition Wizard bootable disk is the most recommended partitioning app on this forum.

If you need an installation disk, you should be able to download an ISO for your exact version of Windows 7 and burn it to a disk. And then activate it with your existing HP Product Key.

I just downloaded and burned the Partition Wizard boot CD,thanks.I'm not sure where to go to download an ISO for my exact version of Windows 7? Windows 7 was pre-installed and activated because my computer was a store display model from a retail electronics store,so I'm not sure how to proceed. It is currently activated and functional,I just don't have any installation discs.

Ok, no problem. You can save the image to either type of partition though.

You said you did not have an install disc.

I, perhaps erroneously, assumed you might want one and thus told you where to get an ISO that can be burnt to a disc that can be used for installation.

I used the word "legit" to distinguish that download source from others that are NOT legit--that are unauthorized, torrents, etc. The source I gave you is Microsoft authorized.

I implied nothing about the legitimacy of your current installation.

If you have no interest in an installation disc, then I was incorrect in my assumption that you were interested in an install disc.

Regardless, you are free to ignore the information.

I wasn't offended---just confused.

You have the right web site, but the wrong location at that website. I don't see download links at the location you provided.

Try this:

Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River « My Digital Life

Scroll down until you find your exact version. Be sure to get 64-bit or 32-bit, whichever you have.

If you use this to install, you will no longer have whatever other stuff beyond Windows that HP may have included from the factory.
