Hi

I was playing Mass Effect on my PC when it crashed with a BSOD. When I started it it happens the following:

- if started in secure mode - it gives a BSOD with no name.
- if the repairing option is selected - while loading the first bar of files it resets with no BSOD.
- normal start - it gives a BSOD.
- start with windows 7 CD in -> resets while loading windows with no BSOD.

I was hopping someone could lend me a hand like changing some topics in the BIOS, since I am not used to change those options risking to compromise the machine integrity.

My first priority is to recover the files, but I need a open OS for that... I am trying to get a name of one of the bluescreens but only the first had a title and I ran out of time before taking note of it.

- x86 (32-bit) or x64 -> x86 (32-bit)
- the original installed OS on the system -> Windows 7 Ultimate
- an OEM or full retail version -> It is not original of the PC and I have used it many times.

- What is the age of system (hardware)? 4 years
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) 1 and a half year

EDIT: I managed to open the OS and copied some of the error details:

Assinatura do problema (Problem Signature):
Nome do Evento de Problema: BlueScreen
Versão do SO: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1
ID de Região: 2070

Informações adicionais sobre o problema (Aditional info):

BCP2: 00000002
BCP3: 00000000BCP4: 90A06544
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 256_1

Ficheiros que ajudam a descrever o problema:
C:\Windows\Minidump\020512-14866-01.dmp
C:\Users\Ricardo\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-43820-0.sysdata.xml

I am making a backup of my files at the moment but I would like some suggestions for me to find out what happened and if it can be fixed. Some software wold be nice... I use Combofix when the situation is dire but I doubt it fixes startup files (I guess that is where the problem is).

Thanks in advance for any help provided :)

Have you tried booting in safe mode (F8)?

Sorry I have tried it and I wrote it in the thread bute I called it "Secure Mode". I am portuguese and here it is called "Modo de Segurança" and I forgot how it is called in English. My bad :p

But like I said:

- if started in secure mode - it gives a BSOD with no name.

Please just check the thread again because I made an EDIT before your answer. My main concearn is if happens again and now I am trying to find out what happened and I would apreciate some advice.

Thanks for the reply :)
