Uninstalling Symantec

What no longer shows up , Norton? If you are speaking of Norton, you can remove extensions by using Ccleaner. I'm uncertain of exactly what Norton detects?

There are two posters in this thread (OP1=renpei, OP2=dmo1) and you are not one of them.
The issues have not been resolved. The problems have everything to do with Symantec / Norton.
By the way Symantec acquired Norton in 1990 so they are the same organization.

Time will tell, but there are plenty of other better and cheaper apps out there for the business side. Norton is their consumer category, and some of their products have scored will recently, but we aren't discussing those here.

If you want a paid app in the business sector, ESET stands at the top.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but we have Endpoint, "A commercial application." Furthermore, this is second tier military application. Don't believe everything you read, test the waters. Information, or dis-information is a great role player in the 'security' game. Endpoint has not shown any signs of weakness other than the Russian hackers whom tried to bribe Symantec, they say!

We've read all thos so-called "trusted" sources with a grain of salt. You are correct in stating that Symantec has allowed malware that ESET detected, so they say. We have not ESET, so we do not know, other than what is posted. However, you must move further into this issue of malware. Symantec is a commercial application, military licensed. Symantec may, may be unwilling to have certain people looking in the wrong direction. This is an area which you will hear no discussion in, for these plans are kept in secret. The talk is of Symantec having its day but talk has always been cheap. When it comes to security, do you actually believe that Symantec would place our troops in harms way. Our nephew made two tours in Iraq in communications, and not once was there ever a hiccup. Believe what you will. ESET may have not allowed that specific malware by reason of knowing about it beforehand. We can say no more.

I don't really care whether Norton or and other of their products are good or bad. I would like to mention when you try to download and installed one of their products and it pops up and tells you it sees another application of theirs it is in your computer some where. You just haven't found it yet. I have remove several anti virus programs from various computers and Norton being one of them. They were all very difficult to remove no mater what brand. A anti virus in order to do it's job has to look in all kinds of little hiding places that virus try to hide so it also has access to those places. You just have to find them. I don't know why a anti virus removal tool doesn't remove every thing on some computers but it does happen and I don't care who made the anti virus program. Try looking using safe mode if you haven't already. Also try looking in services to see if a little part of Symantec isn't there. When I used Nortons years ago it kept me safe but was a hog on the system that is why I got rid of it.
Webroot with SpySweeper was the toughest one to remove of all.

It does not really matter which A-V one uses. I suppose it is "to each his own". But the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I started out with Norton and used it for 7 or 8 years. It did a fine job in protecting the system but with the passage of time it went on getting more and more bloated, mucked the the system and the Registry and wouldn't uninstall easily.

So I shifted to ZASS. Used ZASS for over 6 years. It protected the system very well but slowed down the computer with every upgrade and finally made it come to a crawl. Now I am using the lowly free Avast. It is protecting the system very well and has a very small footprint so it does not alter the system speed.

Between changes I have tested McAfee, AVG and Avira for very short periods and rejected them. For all I know they may be fine but I didn't take to them for one reason or the other. And now I am firmly of the opinion that Avast is the best for my needs till something better comes along. And I have no horror story of virus attacks to tell in all these almost 2 decades.

We would tend to agree with this synopsis presented here. However, you are speaking of Norton, not Endpoint. These are two different applications which I'm sure you are aware of. Regardless, of the merging of Norton and Symantec.

We've never had any issues whatsoever in terms of installing or uninstalling Norton or Symantec. Furthermore, you were asking me questions regarding the Adobe 32 bit flash, as to the thread I posted. Your system is robust, but are you capable of operating the function keys. Now, you appear to be an 'expert' in the security area. This is beyond our comprehension. How can one not know of the privacy policy by Adobe, ask questions thereof, then claim to know everything about security. In the midst of this, your most likely a high speed radio operator on a submarine, no question.

Irrespective of this ongoing conversation, Realtek is pretty good isn't it? I noticed you have a custom built system but you choose Realtek. Wise choice. Your thoughts if you have the time.

To tell you the truth I never chose Realtek. It came along in my Intel Mobo Drivers CD. So in reality it was chosen by Intel. But I have used there Audio System for 4 or 5 years and I have no issues with it. It is very nice and I do most of the music listening on the Computer.

And I have not tried the End Point. I think it appeared on the scene after I had finished with Symantec and Norton.

Well, we find the Realtek drivers top notch, especially in 2-1 speaker set-up. We were just curious how you have a custom built computer, then decided on Realtek. Anyways, thank you for the response
As far as Symantec is concerned, Endpoint is a commercial application licensed. Norton is an open source available to anyone. There has been some controversy regarding Symantec and Norton, possibly presented in the wrong light. It is a little heavy (Endpoint), but works well.

I don't think this message is addressed to me because I don't have Norton and Symantec on my computer since 2004. In any case I don't ever have any problems uninstalling programs because I do that by restoring an image prior to its installation.
