Solved Uninstalling IE11

I am trying to uninstall IE11. It is not listed in programmes so I can't uninstall in the usual way. I have found it in "turn windows features on off" and unselected which has removed the icon from the task bar. However IE11 is still showing in programmes along with all its files. I don't believe I have uninstalled it, otherwise those files would not be there. How do I uninstall IE11 (I'd rather not go digging in the registry at this point).

Internet Explorer is integrated into Windows 7 and cannot be completely uninstalled.
Why are you so concerned about getting rid of it completely?

IE is integrated into W7...it can then be upgraded from IE8 to later versions BUT as you said its part of the core W7 install
You can uninstall any later version but not the base core IE8... turn OFF is still availble

Yep, I know that.
It sounds like he wants to get rid of everything that's associated with Internet Explorer.
I fear if he does, Windows 7 won't react kindly.

I am having issues with slowness and the message preparing security options. last time this happened explorer was the culprit. Support for it is being withdrawn by microsoft in June, I no longer use it as chrome is my default so I thought I would uninstall it. So turning it off in the way I have is the best that can be achieved?

security options is not IE, thats likely MB and Mcafee arguing with each other
IE11 was abandonded by MS at W7 End of life
note Chrome i believe is also dropping support for W7 next yer

IE was definitely the culprit last time this happened, I remember it well. I guess I could uninstall MB and see if that improves speed but I’ve had the two for years and they have worked ok together. This slowness is last few days.

Are you saying the whole system is slow or only certain programs/operations are slow? Have you done something like run the Disk Cleanup utility with the Temporary Files and Empty Recycle Bin specified in the options?

It seems so be behaving this morning. If I disconnect from the net, opening word, excel is instant. The slowness occurs specifically with Chrome. It can take many clicks to get it to open, and maybe three or more minutes to open the home page. Once it is open then all seems to be OK but every so often, it's impossible to open. I've reset Chrome, updated, changed various settings. I won't touch disc utility now as I got into major problems last time I ran that. I have though deleted temporary internet files and emptied the recycle bin. I did run scannow yesterday and it found a corrupted file. I ran it again and the error was cleared. I am tempted to try another browser but I've got accustomed to Chrome so not sure.

Assuming your "My Computer" specs are correct:
Your computer has a very weak Intel processor and only 4 GB of RAM.

Depending on how you use your computer, it's going to have the speed and performance of a turtle.

On a bad day, it can be like a turtle for sure however after running scan now and making a few alterations, Chrome is opening in 5 seconds, it all feels pretty instant now.

I don't know why running the Windows Disk Cleanup would cause major problems. I run it maybe once every 1-2 weeks without any problems. The main thing you want to select when your run it is "temporary files" since they slow the system. I'm running Opera, which is a Chrome browser, on this Vista system with 4 GB of RAM and it's not slow. Ditto with Firefox. Seems to me, there are other threads on Chrome being slow. There are some things here- Chrome Not Loading Pages? Here Are 7 Solutions that may help even though the issue is not exactly the same.

It was something to do with old windows updates being deleted and causing issues. I don’t recall the exact problem but made a mental note not to use it. I can still delete temp internet folders a different way. I have tried all of those suggestions for chrome. I timed it this morning, 81 seconds to open yet once it’s open I can open a new tab in 5 seconds. A common problem with chrome so it seems.

If we're talking about Disk Cleanup in Accessories, System Tools, it shouldn't affect any installed updates. If one uses things like registry cleaners and isn't really careful, they can screw things up in a hurray.
