Man, after installing that high res texture dlc, in some places the skipping/lag....whatever you wanna call it, is horrendous. To the point of just non-stop crawl/maxing out. In some castles and caves, coming out of some houses (like my own in Riften), etc.

Might just have to uninstall it.

I'm not working with crap specs here either...

I'm not working with crap specs here either...

I installed it yesterday, ran it sofar all is running very smoothly and no lag/skipping...but I did notice that I couldn't play the game in offline mode anymore before I installed the update, and I couldn't run the game in online mode without installing the update... So I am not shore about the following,but maybe you can't play skyrim anymore after you uninstall the update? BUT keep in mind all who read this,I am not shore about this,this is just a hunch, and it's based off what I experienced before updating my game.

The Black Star quest.

Bring the Star to Aranea or bring the Star to Nelacar? :huh:

Once Malyn's soul has been defeated, the Dragonborn is pulled out of the Star, thanked, and given either a working Azura's Star by Aranea Ienith, or The Black Star by Nelacar. The former can trap only white souls—those of non-sentient creatures—while the latter, according to Nelacar, can trap only black souls—the souls of sentient beings. In actuality, however, The Black Star can hold either white or black souls, just like a Black Soul Gem.



Additionally, bringing the Star to Aranea makes her available as a follower. While giving the Star to Nelacar does not provide a companion option, The Black Star has the advantage of a much more abundant source of Grand Souls, as all black souls are of the Grand level. Meanwhile, only white souls from exceptionally powerful monsters, typically unique bosses, are Grand Souls.

Question: I travel around and i complete quests in non logical line,i just choose\take one in luck.

Is there any chance to spoil anything in the game?

Question: How much money i need to have in Skyrim? I have almost 400.000.

How much money do you NEED?

I would say that the only money you really NEED is the 5 grand to buy the house in Whiterun and possibly the 2-3 grand to furnish it so it doesn't look like a wreck when you come home to store your loot. Really, everything else in the game can be had by looting and hunting, nothing else need be bought at all. (Initially I did need to buy some health potions though, but they are cheap)

Though if you are collecting the "unususal gems" you will NEED to but the house in Solitude and that's about 30-35k?

Everything else is a "want to" rather than a "need to" as far as I know and even if you bought every house there is it would only be around 125k or so?

I'm kind of hoping that people that do the creation kit stuff create a really awesome house that you have to both quest for and buy it for like 400k gold. Make it REALLY worth it and make you work hard for it...

Well that has always been a problem in this series. But it's not like a HUGE problem. It's /exactly/ how I played and am like 330 places found so nearly complete. I've ruined maybe 3-4 quests out of hundreds and those were all small stupid things like "find me this book" side quests. I have a book called Children of the Sun (or something) and the quest giver wont take it from me because I found it before I got the quest. But it's nothing...

The 1.4 patch (and some earlier ones) fix most of the larger quest breakages that resulted from finding quest objects before you were supposed too. But 99% of the time you will just run into a gate in a dungeon that is unopenable because you need to have started a quest to get into the chamber.

So I wouldn't worry about it, I scoured every castle and cave on my way to and from every quest I did no matter what and the overall breakage has been exceptionally small.

I really hope that Bethseda will make a TES game with the whole continet map, that would be epic!

There is some rumour that a future DL content pack may make them available. They actually exist in the current database, you just cant get there and there isn't a lot of stuff there even if you cheat your way through the engine enough to view it.

I feel your pain..

after dumping all mods from my v1.3 game - I decide to start afresh..
now I'm running a re-installed (vanilla) 1.4 with the Hi-Res(official) D/L
luckily I still had all the gamesaves, etc..

- I'm now gonna try installing the Better Bods mod from SkyrimNexus over
the top of the current set-up..

I'll be back..

I'm using one of the HD mods and it gobbles up the VRAM. Haven't ried the offical texture pack, but can only assume it's doing the same.

Check with After burners MAX vram usage, you might have to disable FXAA or lower the xAA. I went from around 1GB usage up to 1450~ ish. It could be the frame buffer.

In the end it they were "ok" but really not "wow"...

Yeah, the differences could be described as subtle at best.

A nice change TBH, especially with the smaller cirsor and nicer fonts

I tried the official HD pack and wasnt all that impressed TBH. I mean, in some places it looks really good, and in others not so much. Plus, I seemed to get a few random purple textures with it. Not sure why. Un-install the official HD pack all was well, and would reapear with it enabled.

I dunno .. I have many other texture mods that are superior to it, and seem to to actually run better. Even my own Im working on (at least IMO)

I guess what Im trying to say is ... if you haven't registered it to your account yet .. I wouldn't. its not really worth it. The Nexus Mod community does a better job I think.


Theres also the added issue that it disables any texture mods you currently have. Lets say you grab a re-tex of something like the Egyptian themed Elven armor. With the official HD pack, it will over-ride that with the default textures.
The only way around is with esp plug-ins or the steam workshop, as far as I know.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to bother with the official pack. It doesn't seem to add any more than the mod I'm using. The one I'm using doesn't hurt performance or add glitches and by the sound of it, the official doesn't have the WoW factor either.

Tbh, unless I really start focussing on textures, I can live with some of the low res ones.

I've decided to start again after patching, 1.5 now, hoping that I can progress past Esbern and Brynjolf :-(
