Windows 8 New Logo Confirmed by Microsoft

Earlier in February, Internet leaks showed that Microsoft was creating a new Windows logo for the launch of Windows 8. At the time of the reports, Microsoft didn't confirm or deny any plans to change the logo and some writers even said it was a hoax. Today, Microsoft revealed that the reports were true and that it was indeed redesigning the logo for Windows 8.

I must be showing my age but my preference was the Windows 95 logo followed closely by the W2000 logo. The W7 one was OK too.

The new one looks washed out and boring like typical "dumbed down" TV reality shows and sitcoms which have as much humor in them as an old hangmans noose.

I think MS should have made it smart and appealing -- all this "Making it simple" or "adjusting it to reach a wider audience" just says to me -- Oh dear here we go again --another product geared to people unable to speak sentences of longer that 140 characters or contain no more than two syllables.

I'm quite sure we'll se some quite innovative logo modifications from people as time goes on.

Why do they call it 8, or why is 7 called 7? From my count niether of them are the 7th or 8th edition. I kind of liked the name Vista because it got microsoft away from the number system.

That's pretty funny why would they want to change what brought then to the dance in the first place

I bet some young gun thinks he know's better made this up very terrible MS if you value our opinion ( in this case not ) you would keep the current logo

If you wish to change your logo's in the future you should run them by the customers first and have us choose that way if a poll decides no-one has a excuse

I'll beg to disagree as Windows ME was a 9x build, a somewhat gimmicky version of Windows 98; whereas Windows 2000 was truly the first NT4 based Microsoft OS, and introduced NTFS, thus the two were not at all the same animal as initially Windows 2000 was pushed out to corporate end users.

Windows ME used FAT32 file storage, and support for that OS ended in 2006 whereas support for all four versions of Windows 2000 continued until mid-2010.

Yep...couldn't agree more, spot on. Now I'm one of the few out there that never ran XP...I had Me....then went straight to Vista and from there to 7. Talking about the school of hard knocks....

I can dig that but yes there were NT version too I actually skipped ME and 2000

I don't like it. It doesn't look like the originality of Windows at all. I know they're trying to give it a new look with this new Windows coming out, surely they could have kept the logo the same and kept it glossy.

I wonder what their marketing strategy will be for this. :S I'm a bit worried that this logo hasn't been thought out thoroughly.
