2021.11.13.0754.CST."a*" - I purchased an upgrade from the Microsoft Store to my Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 installed by my computer builder, COMPUTER GrEEKS IN April 2014 and prior to the actual dld and install the Microsoft website or the Microsoft Store initiated an NTFS verification which crashed - which I have never had happen since the NTFS format came out, and I have never heard of this anyone else reporting an NTFS crash either.
Afterward upon restarting I discovered the crash had wiped out all of my Restore points, my Windows 7 product code, and my activation status. Worst of all the error code, "Windows Build 7601 Error This copy of Windows is not genuine." The Microsoft Store initially seemed helpful, advising me to to dld the software to a new DVD or a new USB drive, somehow forgetting as I quickly learned, my "corrupted system or possible victim of software counterfeiting...." was gigged [presumably by Microsoft server or Microsoft Store server, which blocked the dld of the prepaid ($217.49) upgrade the Microsoft Store had already been paid for = CANNOT DLD ANYTHING MICROSOFT SOURCED!
There are multiple "restore, repair third party sources" out there - and I did manage to recover the first four (of the five) five character sets [25 total characters] the ink has faded on the envelope I store my Win7 HP sp1 disc in. No problem with help or rescue, or whatever from the builder, but since 2014 I had necrotizing fasciitis (ICD-10 M72.6) called the "flesh-eating bacterial infection" popularly, had a R parietal stroke in 2019 during which my car was stolen from the parking area where I live (thieves even went to local police department beforehand presenting forged Court Order of Repossession in case my neighbors called the police, phlebitis, and then in March 2020 was hit with 'stay home and stay healthy order.'
Now with Windows 11 released I believe it makes more sense to somehow have Windows 11 installed, even purchasing a SSD, adding it to become my "Windows" drive, along with purchasing more and possibly newer, faster RAM (2014 build was of 8GB DDR3 RAM along with upgrade to an NVIDIA GeForce GTE 750 Ti that has 2048 gDDR5 RAM onboard and can use as much as another 2048 of the 8192 total system DDR3 RAM. I can with existing empty RAM slots, and/or also upgrading the 8GB RAM as higher RAM ***** (sorry memory lapse) are now available) but definitely upgrading the NVIDIA video card.
What are your thoughts about the best combination of options, additional upgrade to Windows 11 (64-bit) vs restore the Windows 7 O/S limping along, etc.
Also it seems to me if the NTFS auto or Microsoft initiated verification crashed the system, with the "Build 7601 Error that just telling me to do a clean setup by downloading the upgrade package to a flash drive or burning a DVD doesn't really end their responsibility to restore my o/s system?
There used to be manual fixes for the "Build 7601" error years ago, but I can't find them - any suggestions. BTW I ran scandisk in regular and safe mode with having it report any fubared or missing files?
Thanks all
