When I initially built this puter I purchased Win Vista Home Premium with the Win 7 Home Premium upgrade. Since then I purchased the "upgrade anytime" to Win 7 Pro. (64 bit). I have licenses for each version.

I am upgrading case, motherboard and installing an ssd drive for operating system. I've already installed ssd drive by migrating os from old drive with Paragon Migrate but some wierd things are happening. Since then I've decided to upgrade my motherboard and case and wanted a clean install

Which OS should I use for a clean install or should I take a chance and boot new motherboard with current setup?

Appreciate any help I can get.

Thks, Ken

I always prefer to do a clean install when major components are upgraded....such as the motherboard. It gives you the chance to start clean, with latest drivers and app updates.

I may not be fully understanding the process, but it seems like you might have to do a clean install using the Windows 7 HP upgrade, and then pop in your key to upgrade that to Pro.

However, if it was me, I'd download the full disc for Pro x64 from the following link, and see if that works. You can install the OS completely, and then, once booting, pop in your Pro key and see if it works. Nothing to lose except a little bit of time.

Please let us know if Deacon's idea works for you.

In the future save a Win7 backup image to use in place of reinstalls to save having to reinstall and upgrade again.

Deacon - Thanks, will give that a try. I had downloaded an iso from there with sp1 but it wouldn't boot, must have been the wrong one. Will try out your recommendation.

Greg, thanks, I do have a backup image but it is from a migration from a mechanical drive with upgrades from vista, win7 home to win7 pro so thought I would get as clean of an install as possible.

Thks, Ken

Ok, I downloaded the appropriate iso but it doesn't boot. Am I missing something, I downloaded 2147483647 X17-59186.iso Windows 7 Professional x64 English from the refresh section.

Yes, I burnt it to a dvd rw. The dvd player is ok because it will boot the win7 home disk.

I've read that people have had issues with DVD-RW discs...but I haven't had issues with them. Are you sure you are burning it as an image?

DON'T burn it to a dvd-rw. Find a dvd-r. Dvd-rws aren't designed to be booted off of.
I've used them many times to test out my .iso files for various OSes and my edited Windows 7 .iso files to give both platforms and all versions. The burn is identical on both discs. The ability to erase the disc has no effect on the data being written.

I've had trouble with them in the past. That's why I told them not to use that.

Thanks for all the help. Thinking it may be my burning software (I probably did it incorrectly) I downloaded Image Burn and burned to an R dvd and it works perfectly.

Thanks again, Ken

If your previous burning software wasn't properly closing the disc, or was burning it as data, that would account for your issue.

I have the AVS4YOU software suite and I just checked it out and you are correct I was burning it as Data, I found a dropdown box of further options and found the Burn ISO option, so I can't blame the software, lol. But a shoutout to Image Burn for making his program idiot proof (and it's free).

Windows 7 Digital River direct links: Multiple Languages; X86 & X64 - Page 60

Pick the appropriate one under Media Refresh.

Just an update!!!! The win 7 pro "upgrade key" can only be applied to the os that was upgraded. Can't be used on a full Win 7 Pro.

OK then Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 with the latest official ISO download for Home Premium. The steps are the same for retail.

After install and activation you can insert the Anytime Upgrade key to see if it prompts you to do any updating first. Then once it's set up and running as you like, save externally a Win7 backup image to use in place of future reinstalls.

digital river doesnt work

digital river doesnt work and microsoft wont let me download the iso from their servers with my key. Does anyone still have the old win7 pro 64 bit iso file? I found it on the net but i hate to use a iso that might have been altered.
