Hi everyone,

A few weeks back, someone asked me to install Windows 7 64Bit on his system. I went ahead and installed the same build as I have on my pc, namely 7601 SP1. On my system it workes fine, but on his system, it already started to give problems. I could not open anything. Control panel, users, Computers etc. all couldn't be opened. I couldn't do anything. So I got into safe mode and it worked ok. I created a new account called admin, restarted and now I had full controll over the computer. However, as of 3 days ago, this problem started to rise again. This person can't acces some folders and he can't download anything from the web, with FF nor IE. Now I can't quite figure out what it is, since the same build works perfect on my system. The specifications of the pc of his are quite similar to mine, other than that he has a FoxConn mainbord and 2GB ram. The only thing I think might be the problem is that the system is running on an IDE disk, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?
If you need more info, just tell it!

Does he own a legitimate license for the version of Windows you installed on his PC?

Hi,

The IDE drive could be an issue, but with 2GB RAM, you might be better off with x86. I wonder if that is the issue?

Regards,
Golden

So you installed Windows on his machine with your installation CD and he purchased a license key and validated the system, correct?

He had just upgraded to 4gb or ram, that isn't a problem anymore

So you installed Windows on his machine with your installation CD and he purchased a license key and validated the system, correct?

Yes, that is true

So after a bit of more research, recovery attempts and checkdisk, I found out that internet browsers keep on giving the same errors, no matter what I do. I heard from him that he was searching in the AppData folders since suddenly he only had 2GB memory free (of which 15gb was premiere pro cache files, which now have been deleted), so he tried a few things. He changed the permissions of the User folder so that every user, including SYSTEM has all the perms, he unhided all files inside the user folder and the golden lock which is normally on top of a user folder is gone. The problem right now is that programs somehow can't acces the user, and thus the AppData folder. The HD is completely fine, and he just upgraded the RAM to 4GB, so that is all not in the case anymore. I really hope you guys can help me with all this info.
Thanks!

Is he running any antivirus?

Yes he is, he just changed permissions of the user's folder Admin (which is his username). I think the fix will be to set the original permissions back, but since all the permission adding permissions are gone, I have to somehow do it via regedit
