about to murder my laptop

Unless I misunderstand your situation, you have complete control over whether or not any Windows Update item is installed. Just say no if you don't want them.

I'm still puzzled as to why you don't answer direct questions.

However, if you don't want an update, just right-click it and choose Hide.

I know, but the op were complaining that updates automatically installed and the op didn't want them to.

You need to have Windows Updates set to Automatic and accept all Important and Optional Updates unless there is a specific reason which you have cleared with us.

As with SP's, if you don't have Win7 Updates current then you really don't have Win7.

Actually, I never do that.

Neither Windows, nor anything else, is set to update automatically.

I set progs to notify me when updates are available, then I CHOOSE
when (or, indeed, whether) to install them.

There are several good reasons for this, not the least of which is a
slow connection with a ridiculously low monthly allowance. Also, as
an example, MS keeps trying to update the drivers for the 4500MHD
graphics in the other machine, and the update isn't as good as the
Intel driver (no OpenGL). So I choose not to install it...

I do not recommend this approach to everyone, however.

Sound like you have some good, well-thought-out reasons there. My comments were more targeted to those who do this reflexively hanging onto XP-ired methods.

You can also hide Updates when a driver gives problems - this has happened to me exactly once in countless hundreds of Win7 installs.

If an Update gives problems I'd want to know why. If googling it or asking here doesn't get the answer, Windows Updates website offers tech support via email.

All good, Greg, and some good advice there regarding W/U website.

Cheers!

to answer the question (I been out sorry)
The update is installed already and once I restart its applied (how to I uninstall it) get what I mean? and my restore point has the update already downloaded (the one I believe is messing me up every time)

if i shut down it will load the update.... if it break and I restore it comes back to right now where the update is already downloaded just waiting to... install... get what I mean?

Try starting normally anyway.

If the problem reoccurs then try an earlier System Restore point.

If you know which Update is causing the problem now, post it up in our Updates forum for help. Otherwise install them singly until you find the one which is causing the problem and post it up or open a Support case on Windows Update website.
