why is the TTL unstable?

i was wondering why the TTL (time to live) when i am pinging my router is unstable,
it goes from 10 to 117

usually it is 111, 117, 69
i have this question since when i am searching for ping problems on google, other people have stable TTL

Try the tracert command to see where you're hopping to.

There should be no hops when pinging the router. It should be rock solid and identical almost all the time. For instance, when I ping my router 10 times, I get this:

Yeah, that's why the OP is asking. He's not getting expected ttl's. Like it's hopping from here to Timbuktu!! Maybe the question should be:

Are you sure it's your router you're pinging?
What's the address you're pinging?
And what's the timing (in ms)?

If this is a wireless connection try changing to WPA2 security with AES encryption. Windows 7 sometimes has problems with WEP and TPIK. Flashing the router with new or different firmware would also be an option.

EDIT: my router is WRT120N linksys router
so i ping to 192.168.1.1

The thing about wireless is that if your neighbors are using the same channel, or close to the same channels as you then the bandwidth for those channels will be constantly changing which will effect your ping.

You should make the changes to the security and encryption as I suggested earlier then use a WIFI scanner to determine which channels have the least amount of interference, or crossover from other wireless networks.

you guys helped a lot, i guess that my ping is jumping to my neighbors network?
i cant really help it i guess, my neighbors network is constantly changing chanels (i think it is on auto)
and sometimes, it just interfere with me

Is it odd how those ttl's are inconsistently consistent? Other than a stray 11, and a 64, there are a bunch of 117, 111, and 69.

Might be interesting to do the ping with the "-r" and/or tracert on your system.

And I guess some of those high ping times could be due to wireless interference.
