Solved Hard Drive says formatting - doesn't show percentage completed

I'm formatting a hardware raid5 drive using the drive management mmc snap-in, and it's taking forever. What is making matters worse is that it doesn't show the percentage completed, it just says "ntfs, formatting" on the screen.

Is there a command line or other tool to show me how far along the formatting is as a percentage? like 2% complete, 50% complete, and so on.

Not that I know of, but if you are doing a so called "full format", it can take 3 hours or so on a 1 TB drive, if I recall correctly.

All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
It is taking forever on 2TB , I started it 28hours ago. Grrr.

Just let it run. It shouldn't take mre than a day at this point. If it runs too long, it may be an indication of a bad hard drive.

It finally finished while I was asleep. I wonder why it didn't give me any status updates? Anyways, I'm copying about 1TB to it now, it should finish while I'm at work.

PS the system is an old Athlon XP on Abit Kr7 motherboard.
