Hard Drive says fuller than it really is...

I recently installed a fresh copy of W7 64bit over the 32bit.

I deleted a folder called Windows.old.000; which contained program files etc. of what was on the preivous OS. It was about 16GB when it should of been a lot more.

The OS now has hardly anything on it.

But, there is another folder called Windows.old, which I cannot delete. It is only like 6KB and contains nothing. When I try and delete it, it says it couldn't find the item.

I have only done a disk clean-up so far which did almost nothing. It deleted something like 3MB of data.

HDD size: 143GB

Amount used: 60GB~

Concur.

Then, once you install the system try not to micromanage it. IOW .... just use it. Windows Seven is very stable. Just let it run. Don't spend too much time peeking below the surface trying to figure out what it's doing. I did that for too many years. Nice, now, to have a system that "just works".

You will only find out what's going on if you map your drive. For that do:

1. run WinDirStat (for C). That will show you all the files on your system disk - but NOT the shadowstorage
2. for that you run the following command in an elevated Command Prompt: vssadmin list shadowstorage. It is the allocated number that shows what's currently used by the system.

OK, 14GBs are used for shadowstorage (that's where the restore points are being stored). Ultimately the system will use 21.5GBs (maximum) before it reuses the space.
And what did you get from WinDirStat. That must now show about 45 or 46GBs for C. Is that correct?

I mean the one I point to in the picture. Sorry, mine is in German, but Größe=size.
If that shows 51GB, then you should have a total of appr. 65GB used (including the 14GBs of the shadowstorage). But that is far too much. Maybe you can post the same picture as below so that we can have a look where the big files are - or maybe you have identified them already and give us more details.

You seem to have an unusual large amount of data (Users) and programs (Program Files X86) on the system. The rest looks about normal.

I have 17GB of movies. So there's no fix?

Don't go by that. There is a lot of stuff you cannot see that way. The WinDirStat numbers are the correct and complete numbers (plus the shadowstorage that WinDirStat does not show).

PS: Looks like you also have a good selection of games. Else your program files would not be so bloated.
