After installing W7 on my computer I can't seem to connect to the internet anymore. There weren't any problems when I had Vista.

Any clues?

I have unchecked the power-thingy on device manager, so that's not it.

Security type: Open
Encryption type: WEP

Please help me!

It's usually a good idea to do so because most of time it will set up your connection during the install.

Well.. a bit late for that now. Works fine with a normal wire, just the wireless that doesn't work.

Any other ideas, anyone?

I actually get the same problem, when connected wirelessly Windows reports "Limited Connectivity". Whereas, via ethernet cable it works fine. I had a problem like this when I first tryed to connect Vista to the internet with WiFi, turns out that I needed new Firmware for the router. I'm not going down that path for Seven so will just bear with.

So, what you're saying is I need a firmware update for my router?

What OS did you use before Seven, XP? It could be the case that the router is not acustomed to the way in which Seven is trying to communicate. I know when I had the problem with Vista, it was due to the way in which the PC and Router communicated; something to do with how long Vista waited for a response before assuming a failed connection, if i remember correctly. Or it could even be the case that your Wireless Network Interface Card needs new drivers...

Drivers for Intel Pro Wireless Card

I had tthe same problem with my Intel Pro Wireless BG2200 card. After trying for several hours, I googled and came across this one..........
HP Intel PRO/Wireless Drivers for Microsoft Vista.

So if you google the above and download the file and install you should be ok. This file also includes drivers for 4965. Give it a try, it may work.

Lots of problems reported with wireless adapters on here at the moment. As suggested elsewhere make sure you have access to a copy of the latest Vista driver for your wireless adapter to install into Win7, as the WDDM standard drivers (if available) often have poor performance.

WiFi drivers seem to be a bit of a black art. I found out that my desktops Linksys Card actually uses a Broadcom chip set. By installing the latest Broadcom driver (rather than using the ancient Linksys driver) my WiFi performance increased by about 30dB!! (RSSI has shot up from about -85dB to -55dB). I t also seems to be fully compatible with Win 7.

Solution of W7 Wifi problems

If you have a trouble with WiFi connection than you have to only change channel of your AP. Use lower than 11 and everything will be working. :-)

Hi all,

I have the same adapter, and it has been working fine on Windows 7 until (I think) the latest Microsoft Updates.

The way I have been working around the problem is uninstalling the driver before shutting down. The next time I boot, windows successfully installs the driver, I enter my network key and all is well. However if I don't uninstall then I only get local access!

I have just updated my installation from build 7137 to 7229 hoping this would cure my issue (connected to internet during install), but no such luck :(

Every time I Boot to Vista I connect straight away...

Any suggestions?

Hi Nathe Fellow,
I was a bit premature leaving my previous post, it must have been a fluke that it worked 1 time only! What I resorted to in the end was uninstalling the driver prior to shutting down, then the next time I booted up, windows installed the driver and I had to re-enter my key.

Anyway, this continued for a few days and then it miraculously cured itself! I am back on DHCP and not had a problem in a few weeks!!!

Good luck

What Win 7 build are you guys on? There was a big improvement for me in network connectivity and discovery with build 7232.

I have a Lenovo X61t that has the 4965AGN and it works great, wired or wireless. If I have both on, it uses the Gigabit (they both connect to my 3Com switch). If I yank the wired it switches to the wireless automatically. I also did have it on when installing, although 7232 x64 was an upgrade from 7201.

Clarification: the wireless connects to my Verizon DSL router, which in turn is wired to the switch.

whoever is getting limited conectivity, we need more information to see what is wrong:
goto command prompt type

ipconfig /all

This will show what IP address it is using, and your gateway / DNS servers
make sure the gatewat is on the same subnet and you can ping it.
if you can ping the gateway, check if you can ping something on the internet
like 74.125.87.104 which is google.com. if that works then try pinging Google

Sometimes if you have norton or eset running they can distrupt your network or DHCP, do you have any firewall or protection solutions? sometimes protection solutions such as norton or eset have a hidden firewall feature that is still active even when disabled.

Also try disabling then re-enabling the network adapter. Sometimes forcing the DHCP server to give you a new address works. You can do this in the Network & Sharing Center, click on the connection, then on Disable in the connection properties. Once disabled, click on Troubleshoot Problems and follow the instructions.
