Just curious : does cleaning up registry cause bsod's...?

Best way. ..don't install a bunch of crap in the first place. Test and play i n a virtual machine.

Either use the inbuilt tool ... Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tool > Disk Cleanup, or use CCleaner . Dont use anything else to clean the system, anyhow.
About registries, other than being 100% sure that what you are doing, better you dont touch it. Windows 7 registry hive is competent enough, and does not teed a frequent cleaning at all . If it is an urgent case, use CCleaners registry tab to clean it .
