Reco? Wireless Router n for DD-WRT??

Like a zillion other folks I have used two bridged [single ap] WRT54GL 'g' routers for years running DD-WRT. one of them is finally trying to give up the ghost and its time to up my speed, so I am shopping.

I'm not married to DD-WRT, but I like its features pretty well and the stability on the current 2 has been outstanding - also the blowtorch range. I checked the dd-wrt hardware compatibility tables for n' routers and then looked them up on newegg et al... many of them are not highly regarded. in fact that's the problem: I haven't spotted a single one that has anything like the user reputation of the WRT54GL - at least not yet.

What would some of you recommend? and I do need to get a model that is fairly easy to bridge for coverage of around 20,000 sq ft, symmetrical

I have luck using a Buffalo router capable of wireless bridging and repeating powered with DD-WRT. Please check out the technical details of this Buffalo Dual Band Buffalo router, you'll get a lot more features. Make sure that you buy from a reputable vendor like Amazon just in case you have to return it it will be hassle free.

The D-Link DIR-655 is one of the best routers on the market, highly recommended.

If you need to bridge the connection or want another access point or if you need to add dual band support then use the dual band D-Link DAP-1522 which is a dedicated A/P or bridge. There is a simple switch on the side for A/P or bridge mode. It also has a DHCP setting if you need to set up a separate network for some reason.

Using a dedicated bridge/access point is much better and more reliable than trying to tweak a regular router to work as an access point or bridge. I get the full 300Mbps from this access point. If all clients are using wireless N then using the "802.11N only" setting will get you much better speed 300Mbps, compared to the much slower mixed modes. It's also important to use AES encryption as it's made to work with wireless N.

did you use DD-WRT on that buffalo, or the stock rom?
I'd stay with DD-wrt if its easy... if not, then I'm open to something new if as bulletproof.
one of the gorgeous beauties of DD-wrt on the 54GL is it takes advantage of the radio's higher power, which the stock firmware does not... you can turn it into quite a heater
