Spam Surge in My Win Live Mail

I seem to have had a surge of spam. Many supposedly from "techdaily at (various domains)" Any others have this?

Leads me to the question:

Whats the specific difference between blocking the sender vs blocking the senders domain? Which is more effective?

Email addresses are of the form [email protected] where the full address is the "sender" and the part after the @ sign is the domain. So if you were to block the domain of a sender with a gmail address you would be blocking email from everyone with a gmail address. The domain method is much more effective but should be used with caution.

Thanks. That's about the way I've been handling it.

I just get peeved about the quantity of junk and the technologists inability or lack of interest or motivation to solve the problem. I do think it is their responsibility.

It has been solved fairly well with the advent of "server side filtering". My ISP quarantines or deletes most spam, depending on how I set it up. There are even several levels of aggressiveness in addition to the option to block specific email addresses or whole domains. I use their "recommended" level of aggressiveness with quarantining and specific email and domain blocking (and also white lising) on my main account so I can't loose anything. On other accounts I use for specific purposes, I use no quarantining, aggressive filtering, and white/black lists. Works perfectly.

Hi,

I agree that ISPs have been active with filters. My mail server does this and sends the emails noted as "spam". I then filter them to a spam folder for deletion. But recently I seem to have received an excessive amount that slipped through. I have notified them.

But looking at the junk folder and the quantity of spam items suggest that the problem is as always. There is much too much spam being sent.

I have to stand by my comment that the technologists, specifically those involved in sending and allowing this volume to continue unabated, have not provided a solution which would prohibit mass mailing from essentially unknown entities.

Wondering if anyone else has noticed the increase? It seems to be continuing unabated even though I have notified my mail host. The have agreed there is an increase.

Still confounded that this can't be solved. It is all about greed?
