How can I place an application icon on the quickmenu part of the taskbar and get it to stay there?

With Windows XP, I used to just drag an icon there and it would stay. I haven't been able to do that with Win 7.

I'm not sure if Quickmenu is the right term. I mean a portion of the taskbar that holds icons so one can conveniently launch one's most often used applications from there when the desktop icons are hidden by already open windows.

Hi,
by Quickmenu, you mean the icon(s) pinned on the right of the Start Menu Orb?
if yes, you could pin the icon(s) by accessing Start Menu -> choose the program (find it on "recently opened programs" list or on "All Programs") -> right click on it -> choose "Pin to Taskbar".

Hope this helps,
Cliff

There are many ways to do that. Check this Taskbar - Pin or Unpin a Program
