Bing Desktop is available for Windows 7

Wow, the only way I can describe this is hideous. Is it really that big of a drag to search via a web browser these days?

It is superfluous, but it's also handy at the same time.

Does anone know how to re-enable it after I disabled it? Can't seem to find out how...

If you disabled it through the msconfig's Startup section there simply go to the Start>All Programs>Bing Desktop folder and click away to see it start up right away. From there you can re-enable it in the msconfig again to see it start up with Windows.

Wallpaper without the search

A number of folks mentioned installing this just for the nice daily wallpaper from Bing. If you don't wish to have the search features, just the rotating Bing images, I suggest you try the Bing RSS wallpaper feed:

Fresh wallpaper, updated automatically - Microsoft Windows

You'll get the same quality photography, and be able to control the timing of the rotation just like any other feed. RSS wallpaper is one of the overlooked features of Win7 that I love.

Hope this helps those of you who like the look but not the search integration!

I turned automatic startup with windows off from the Bing Bar in favor of the regular windows wall paper, and now want to switch back. I cannot seem to find it listed under personalization or Desktop Background.

Where do I start it going from? Desktop context menu has nothing. I seem to be at a loss, and feel like I should know this somehow heh

You were able to disable it from the Bing toolbar? That's something new since this was assumed to be a totally separate item installed separately from the Bing Live toolbar.

Still if you go into Start>All Programs>Bing Desktop have you tried starting it up from there? That should get it running at least for the one Windows session. Of course the other option would be an uninstall and fresh install to see it done over as a regular startup item again.

Here I simply unchecked it in the Startup tab of the msconfig to keep it from auto loading each time without a total disable. I even created a new shortcut and dragged that into an addon Quick Launch toolbar(along with a ton of other utilities naturally).

Click to start and right click to bring taskmanager to end as well as bring up UltraMon's wallpaper option again. But it makes it available at any time without it being an automatic startup item.

You're a genious. I guess I didn't think of the bing desktop as a program but a part of windows, so I was confused. Clicking on the program started it right back up again. Thanks.

ps When I mentioned Bing toolbar, I meant the Bing Desktop Toolbar. I unchecked "Start Bing Desktop when Windows starts". It is now enabled again.

Great! I didn't see the toolbar added on here since the only other bar besides menu is the Favorites bar when using IE. IE presently isn't presently the default browser however until 10 is available for 7.

(Me no care for 9 and miss 8 but... WaterFox has Bing set as the default search! )(Well have to keep something MS there at least! :roflmao: )

I used to be Yahoo and ask.com until Bing arrived! The web security I have here also indicates which one ends up leading to ..? No "Google-litis" for me!

Google search results are found to be polluted with far more questionable sites over what is seen when using Bing. The Web Of Trust addon for IE as well as other browsers is a security tool that will rate each site in the results and even has their own search engine as an alternative. The results however tend to be a bit less then others.

John’s Background Switcher « John's Adventures that I use, and have already linked to in this thread has options to find and use suitable wallpaper images from the web, ( from Picasa, Flickr, Etc), as well as on your own systems. This may give you the wallpapers you wish without the Bing Bar

It also has generic search options which you can fine tune, (eg 1920x1080 nature images), and has options to use Google image search and/or Bing image search

I cannot recommend the program enough, you'll never be bored with your wallpaper

Not wanting to see wallpapers changed automatically but having one for each monitor I simply reset the UltraMon profile here when having the Bing Desktop active. That allows the search block to be displayed while keeping the present profile.

Unfortunately the one thing lacking is a dual display setting seen with either this or the Bing program itself.
