i've got 34/35 cats at the moment, really.
however, only three of them are actually mine, and live in my small bungalow with me.
i help to run a cat sanctuary aided by cats protection, a uk charity, and we get all the unwanted cats in the district. the vet visits every fortnight, and all the cats are neutered, inoculated and microchipped.
the charity cats live in three mobile homes (i believe they are called trailers in the US) on the farm where i rent. most of them are free to roam around during the day, but i like to count them all in at night before i feed them.
one of the mobile homes accommodates six FIV cats (FIV = feline equivalent of HIV), and so these cats are not allowed to mix with the others - fortunately they have enough space and don't get too cabin-fevered as they have a yard, and an area of fenced/roofed in grass.
the reason i am unsure of the exact number is because we have a stray who visits regularly for food and fuss, but she hasn't officially moved in yet.
it's amazing how they all get on with each other, with only the occasional minor spat - cats can and do live in colonies if necessary, i often see them sleeping curled up together, washing each other etc.
i also have 45 chickens, 9 ducks and a goose, and i am keeping my eyes out for a cheap llama, to help look after the birds - llamas will apparently attack foxes etc.
anyone got a llama they want to sell me cheap?
