Seavixen:

If I understand Beachy correctly, he has a wiped hard drive via "clean" command from Diskpart.

He then made a partition in Diskpart.

Beachy:

Two questions:

1: What exactly is written on that disk you are attempting to boot from? Word for word.

2: What makes you think you are attempting to boot from that disk?

It's a pity we can't see the disk management layout so we can see what's going on.

2: What makes you think you are attempting to boot from that disk?[/QUOTE]

Because I press F12 to get up the boot menu and choose from the select boot device list.....CDROM

If you have a CD drive as opposed to a DVD drive, you aren't going to have much luck with a DVD.

I have no idea what type of drive you have.

In post #5 of this thread, you said:

"And yes, I have a valid copy of Windows 7. It came on a DVD with two disks, the 32bit and 64 bit versions. It has a valid product key that I already validated.

Are you using one or the other of these 2 discs in your DVD drive when you attempt to boot?

Do you know how to set the BIOS to boot from the DVD drive---assuming you even have a DVD drive?

Greg, There is something in the Bois that says EFI CD/DVD Boot option. The info it gives me says "To choose whether to boot CD via EFI interface such as a 64bit window 7 installation CD"

I have set the other setting as you said with CD as first boot and HD as second, the EFI as i describe above is set to AUTO

You'd need to have a GPT formatted HD to install using EFI boot disk. Was this how it was installed before?

I'd disable the EFI boot disk and wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command and then run Convert MBR to make sure Disk is converted, then boot the DVD by setting it's drive first to boot in BIOS, create your partitions using Drive Options during Custom Install: Clean Install Windows 7
How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Ok, Greg I understand that but right now Im fried and I bet all you guys are too. So I cant do this right now....but i will give it another go tomorrow. Thank you so much for all your help today.

PS. I just went through the CD's I made as backups ....my docs...pics...music ect....and found that I had made a back up of the registry before I tried to upgrade to the 64 bit version > don't know if this will be of any significance

Hello everyone who has helped me and been patient with me. Sadly, Im feeling that by making a simple mistake of trying to upgrade from the 32 bit windows 7 to 64 bit I have somehow totalled my HD. Yes I'm feeling despondent and totally hacked off as the machine is only five month old.

I can't even get into command prompt to use the Diskpart Clean Command. When I boot, after setting the bios to boot from CD/DVD it goes no further than the boot screen and just tells me BOOTMGR is missing and I cant go any further.

So I really don't know what to do next apart from cry. I think I have given up and just i just need to accept that the machine is just not gonna load.

Im looking on Amazon at new processors and wondering if I can afford to buy a quad core processor and just start over. :(

Anyway I just wanted to say thank you to you all for your awesomeness and support.....You guys rock !!

It isn't necessary to go by feeling. You can test your HD using the HD maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan followed by Disk Check from the installer's System Recovery Options Command Line.

Once you do this you can wipe the HD using the Diagnostics CD Quick wipe function and try install.

If you are having problems booting a disk then reset the BIOS to defaults, while in BIOS setup set disk drive first to boot and try SATA controller at AHCI setting. Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

We do not give up here and it always gets installed.
