Hi,

So i'm bit worried about what temps i'm seeing with this card i have just bought today (This one to be exact http://uk.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/NVIDIA_Series/ENGTX560_DC2DI1GD5/)

With the latest Nvidia drivers 301.42 i saw it hit 100c within Dirt 3 . And with 285.62 drivers it gets to around the high 70's. Just to add i run Driver Sweeper inbetween every install of new drivers. Idle temps are in the mid 30's.

I have good airflow in my Case and room temps are fine. Seeing that it's crappy weather as per usual in the Northwest of the UK  lol. But, and this is where i'm confused. I previously had a GTX 260, which was known has a bit of a warm runner (Supposedly). But i never saw mine get beyond the mid 60c mark in anything i run.

I also always use EVGA Precision to up the fan speeds under any 3D applications.

Does anyone here think this maybe a faulty card or am i missing something? Or as anyone with the same card or any non Ti GTX 560 experienced this?

Thank you in advance for any advice

That has to be a faulty card or the fan on the card is just not working how it should be if it's going to 100c but the idle temperatures are normal and actually cool.If you still have it under warranty I would go exchange it before the warranty runs out as soon as you can.The most that card should get to is maybe around 60-75c when under stress. The 100c mark is what would worry me and could be the fan on it is not working properly and is not cooling it off fast enough.I would worry when it starts passing the 75-80c mark.Make sure the fan on the card is working how it should be and that the card has enough space and ventilation to let your video card breathe enough cool air in and blow the hot air out your pc case.

I have a GTX 570. My idle temps are around 42C and I max out around 80-85C during BF3. This is right inline with what this card should do, so I am not concerned, but 100C would have me a bit concerned.

All good.

And with 285.62 drivers it gets to around the high 70's.

Still good.

With the latest Nvidia drivers 301.42 i saw it hit 100c within Dirt 3 .

Ouch. I suspect the previous drivers weren't fully utilizing the card - the newer ones are.

Have you noticed any artefacts? system lock ups, BSOD x116 etc? If any of those start to occur, then the card is definitely faulty.

I also always use EVGA Precision to up the fan speeds under any 3D applications.

How high do you have the fan set? Try adjusting that to see how much impact it makes.

Alternatively, disable the EVGA app and monitor the cards fan/temp with GPU-Z. (Select show highest reading)

Try it on a few other games as well and see how the temps go.

If the temps are high across the board, RMA it to be on the safe side.

Some drivers REV the fans up on some cards and make them run a little hotter then normal

Have you tryed to pull the card out and make sure nothing is taking away possible ventilation ?
verify if the fan is even turning
If you have another slot available have you tryed it ?
you can also just rma or return and see if a nother card will do the same thing

Well first off thank you for all the replies. One thing about these forums is that you can always rely on good informative people to help out :)

So anyway i've sussed it. Woo Hoo!

Basically it was kind of my own fault for being to excited in having a blast on this new card and not taking any notice of my previous configuration.(Yep, i know. Numpty :p) Has you can see from my specs i am running on a Asus P5Q-E motherboard and it's setup for PCI-e slots and PCI is a bit strange.

This is it, and i've marked where things used to be in regards to my sound card and where it is now:

AsusP5Q-E.jpg

With my old GTX 260 which is about 2 or so inch longer than this newer GTX 560, the fan would over hang past my sound card. But with the 560 the fan was right above the sound card. Thus considerably lowering the air-flow to the card. The reason i always used to have the sound card in the second PCI slot was i'd read somewhere in the past to not use the top slot when there is a graphics card within the top PCI-e slot. Seems that was old information and doesn't seem to matter. Which is great because this means i can keep my X-Fi and not have to reside to onboard sound. I know there isn't a lot of difference these day's (If any) But i've got so used to the software etc of the Soundblaster setup and never get any of the problems people talk about all the time with SB cards.

So has you can see from the diagram i have moved my sound card up to the very top PCI slot. Now my GTX 560 idle's at 26c and under full load i haven't seen it go above 60c.

I'm well happy now and i hadn't even noticed that say Dirt 3 had been running maxed out in DirectX 11 and not DirectX 9 like it used to on my previous GTX 260. Even though i could of run it in DirectX 10 it used to struggle a bit at the 1920x1080 res i run.

So thank you to all again and +Rep all round ;)

Extra Note: Just goes to show how a system with great airflow can suddenly have everything messed up due to just overlooking something...

@poster bro, u shud've bought this one... ASUS - Graphics Cards- ASUS ENGTX560 DCII TOP/2DI/1GD5 much better in clock speed and cooling... than the one u bought... time to upgrade..... :D

Maybe so. But i had a budget of £130 (Set by the missus so there was no debating on that lol) And plus i was buying from Scan Computers which is like 5 minutes from my house. The card you linked from Scan was about £170 at the time of me buying a new card.

Plus i'm not to a few frames per second .Which in all honesty is what it would be :)

But thanks for the concern anyway ;)
