Solved computer would not restart (bad CMOS battery?)

I walked away from my computer for a couple minutes. Came back and the displays were off, computer was still on. Held the power button to shut it off. Shut off everything (displays, surge protector, switch on PSU) for about ten sceonds.

Turn the computer back on and the BIOS screen came up stating "CPU was changed, press delete to enter BIOS".
I did not change the CPU, does this sound like a CMOS battery going bad?

Maybe; could be many other things, but a dying CMOS battery is a possible suspect.

Try resetting the CMOS to see if it resolves it, otherwise replace the battery to see if that does.

It only happened once. I checked the settings in BIOS and they didn't change from where I had them. I haven't had this board for too long. What do batteries last for, 7 years?

I built the computer so I guess I'm the "tech support". It happened again today. I'll just get a battery and see if that helps. Maybe time for a BIOS reflash? I'll be getting a new case and when I do, I'll be reseating the CPU, video cards, memory and redoing the TIM.

Most major hardware components have a warranty and tech support, especially the mobo. Is it less than a year old?

Just reset the CMOS a couple hours ago. I think this is happening after the displays go to sleep and just before the computer goes to sleep. Going to see what happens the rest of today.

Update: It hasn't happened since reseting the CMOS.

Can you wake it up by tapping the Enter key? Check your Power Options to reset to defaults. I like to try mine to see if they work by setting sleep to 1 minute and Hibernate to 2 minutes. Try waking from sleep first, then let it proceed to Hibernate and see if that works and Resumes correctly. Then set them where you want them and enable Hybrid Sleep to avoid losing data during sleep in a power failure.

The computer was still on (fans spinning and MB lights are lit). The displays were off. Pressing any button had no effect. The only options I have are S1 and S3. I presently have the BIOS set to S3. I have since reset the BIOS to defaults, changed the options back to where I had them (fans set to 10%, sleep set to S3, USB KB wake from S3).

Everything is working fine now.
