As far as the ports go, that is correct. A USB2 cable fits into a USB3 port - but not the other way around. But regarding the electronics in the dock, I am not sure. I would just not take any chances if USB2 is not specified.This new dock you posted seems to be USB3 only. That is no good. Look for one that has USB2 and USB3.
Unless there is a new breed I don't know about, it should be backwards compatible.
