SSD's are they worth the money?

This new dock you posted seems to be USB3 only. That is no good. Look for one that has USB2 and USB3.

Unless there is a new breed I don't know about, it should be backwards compatible.
As far as the ports go, that is correct. A USB2 cable fits into a USB3 port - but not the other way around. But regarding the electronics in the dock, I am not sure. I would just not take any chances if USB2 is not specified.

I knew that USB 3 is backwards compatible, but I wasn't sure whether the actual dock would work with USB 2. I have sent an email to the company that sells it and I have asked whether it will work on USB 2 systems. As you said though if it is compatible it would say that on the product description, and it doesn't mention it.

That looks like the right kind of dock. But I probably would not buy this particular one. Read the 'Customer Review'. The thing seems to have some problems.

I will have another look around but they all seem to have at least one review saying they are no good.

I can't speak for WHS, but I have the single version Black X, not the Duette. I love it and have had no problems with it. Mine is USB/eSATA. I use the eSATA and it works very well.

This is the same one you mentioned in your tutorial isn't it

Thermaltake BlacX Duet 3.5 inch eSATA Dual Bay Dock: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

If so I will buy that one.
No, that's not it. I have a 2.5"/3.5" Sata2/eSata dock. But this one seems to be 3.5" eSata only and would be useless for you.

You have to look for a 2.5"/3.5" USB2/USB3 dock. If you give me links to the UK electronics stores, I'll help you look.

Here are some:

Thank you very much for your time, could have sworn that was the same one though.

Sorry I am late with the answer. I looked thru all 3 links and did not see a single decent Sata2/3 enclosure. Maybe you have to settle for USB2 only for the time being since you only have USB2 ports at this time. There are quite a few 2.5" USB2 docks - some for little money.

+1 for the Thermaltake BlacX. I have the single version of both the USB/eSATA dock and the USB 3 dock. The USB 3 dock is backward compatible with USB 2 and both docks support either 2.5 or 3.5 HDD's.
