If you do a factory restore, yes, it will return it to factory conditions from what I know. You should back up all your data first. I'm sure someone with personal experience will come along. A clean install would be better, do you have the original OS disks? A Guy

Hi and welcome! Have you tried rebooting and pressing F4 to see if there is a recovery partition? Although you may have a pirated copy, they may have left the original partition intact.

As this is trying to recover from installing a pirated version of w7, what do y'all think of cleaning the disk first before doing any installation? I would worry about data it may have placed on the disk that doesn't get deleted by recovering/reinstalling.

It isn't that there is a known data that won't delete. F5ing is bringing up the possibility that the recovery of Home Premium may not completely remove some elements of Ultimate, and preparing the partition may be in order. I cannot say if that will be the case. A Guy

Additionally, pirated/cracked software is popular way to spread some pretty serious malware. There is an area between a hard drive's first sector, where the Master Boot Record (MBR) resides, and the first sector available for the first partition. Sometimes called the hidden area after the MBR. The way I understand it, it's a prime area for malware to hide as there are no "standard" means of detecting what's there. You can't see it with Explorer, standard file system tools or most AV software. Using Diskpart in conjunction with its clean command wipes out whatever is there, in addition to the MBR/PBR. That also means the disk loses track of all it's partitions, including any Samsung recovery/tools partitions.

If your recovery disks are designed to allow you to restore your hard disk, including all of the Samsung special partitions back to factory conditions, I would want to make sure that hidden area after the MBR was erased. But I don't know if using Samsung's recovery disks actually wipe that area clean, and don't know if it restores all the Samsung special partitions. If you know the disks can be used to restore to a brand new hard drive (like you were replacing a failed original hard drive) back to "factory condition" then I would clean that hidden area first, then use the recovery disks to restore.

But I'm just paranoid like that. I just don't know if reinstalls, either via OEM recovery disks or standard install disks, overwrite that hidden area. So I always manually run that clean command before restoring/installing, just to be on the safe side. It only takes a few minutes to do it. You've just got to have the proper restore media to bring you back to the state you want to be in.

Hope that helps and is not too confusing.

Do you have a COA sticker on your laptop showing the license code? If so, better you first download the original home premium iso from digital river, and install using that. Put the product code during installation, check 'activate automatically when online' and you are done.

But, dont forget to backup the user data, as suggested earlier.
