My theory on IBT and Prime. If you set your Vcore by IBT you will fail Prime. If you watch the Vcore, When IBT starts it is higher vcore than when Prime starts.

Big reason I think IBT is a perfect tool for a fast/general idea if a OC is stable. especially if looking for a max clock.
But when it comes down to the final stability test .. Prime all the way.

IBT is like 'full throttle' whereas Prime lifts up on the gas every now and then.

It's those transitional power states, vdrops, vdroops etc that are added to Primes mix which do make it the better tool for longevity testing.

Fighting with this thing trying to get it stable with a lower PLL voltage is beginning to annoy me, which is perfectly normal for overclocking. But 1.7935, with the same 1.325 vcore, and a 1v VCCSA nets me about 7-8 hours of P95 activity before it stops responding.

I can't get the VRM Frequency to show me any love, which means more reading needs to be done. As far as PLL goes, I'm not budging from where it's set to in the saved profile that I'll get back to stabilizing in the wee hours of the morning.

What level of LLC do you have it on? And what size of FFT is it hanging on do you know? large or small? - If small, it's not enough vcore.

And see what options your VRM Spread spectrum gives you - I "think" it's the same as my VRM frequency option which should be set to 350.

Not sure what happened. prime just crashed. No BSOD or lock ups, Prime just got tired of playing after 2 hours.

I just turned it up to Extreme for the run I'm doing now (3, going on 4 hours strong). I'm not sure of the size as when I woke up and saw it had stopped responding, I just restarted.

Stopped it at 12 hours, 7 minutes. Think it's safe to slap a "Stable!" sticker on this overclock with a lower PLL.

Next up, 4.7 and trying to stabilize LLC to be lower; it's already being monitored at 1.368 with LLC set to Extreme with an actual voltage of 1.325.

Well, I'm not as hardcore and patient as some of you guys. 8 hours is enough for me. Prime has to be the most boring test there is, with the possible exception of memtest86. I have to work on temps before I go much higher.

Agreed! I find that BF3 stresses my system better than any individual test out there. A true test is when all the components work together without crashing.

Well, what the heck do you expect me to do? I increased the multiplier to 2.5. Jeezzzz! But it is rather warm.

Different board, different bios, different results - but I'm using 50% LLC and it's all good.

Memtest is the clear boredom winner, but prime is a close second.

As for hardcore, I used to do 20-50 IBT passes and 24hr Prime runs, but my patience is decreasing too. 5-10 For IBT, 12hr for Prime.

Lately I'll prime at a given offset - call it stable - then lower it a bit and just 'real world test it'. Any freezes/BSODs, I bump the setting up.

Ie I primed at +.105, but I lowered it to +.070, had one freeze in Arma 2 - bumped it up to +.085 and so far so good. After the initial Prime test, I simply could not be arsed re-running it.

If I keep encountering freezes - back to the Prime passing Offset. Eventually I do the same to RAM. Lower DRAM volts and vccio, and see how it 'real worlds'.

At least if it plays silly buggers, I have a good idea why.

I've found Aida64 gets my 3770K hotter than Prime does. I generally use Aida64 for stress testing and temp monitoring anyway but found it interesting. Others on another forum have since found the same thing.

Yeah, I'm certainly not going for 5 with Ivy...

4.8 maybe... but not 5.

4.7 daily is my current sweet spot.

I thought I would show what the "OC Tuner" in my Asus Sabertooth board does. It is a very safe overclock, and it overclocks the CPU, RAM and iGPU. I have tweaked the RAM frequency and the iGPU frrequency just a touch. The next step is to lower the voltage until I'm at a more reasonable setting. I personally don't need any more out of this CPU, but I'm glad to see some people have been able to push it to 4.5-4.6GHz with no problems.

Also, if anybody has the 3570K and an Asus Z77 motherboard, feel free to send me a message if you have any tips or tricks on how you got the numbers you got. Always appreciate tried and true information!
