I told him i'd be able to beat his score at a lower frequency but i wouldn't tell him how untill today. So i can't tell you yet. What i can say is it's to do with AMD's microcode..

Yeah it only applies to Phenom II and Fx i think but as you say it's a good read.

after reading some 5.2 neted round 11ms

It's a major improvement but could be better after finding out about a new Microcode im sure they have the ability to make it almost equal to a intel score

I've got a lot of testing to do with Pi over the next month so we'll see how it goes.plenty of head aches lol. Pi has no real life relevence anyway really as nothing or very little uses those instructions anymore but it does make you think why AMD limited it still.
If i remember rightly Pi likes high cpu clocks and tight memory timmings.

Very good Steve, not too many sub 8 second ones, let alone under 7.
I did find the different length tests aren't linear, for example each longer test, should take twice as long as the one right above it, but they take longer.

Not actually very fast Gary, I don't think the extra cores make any difference in this test, more speed is the key I think.

@4.6 it's around 7.9 seconds.

Yeah Paul it runs on only one core anyway according to Resource Monitor I had up with Super Pi.

Here's a list of World Records for the SuperPI 1M benchmark.

Looks like the majority were accomplished using LN2 cooling. Wonder if there's a list of records using more conventional cooling?

Note the 5-second jump when the CPU architecture changed.

Here is the full chart for me. The 1M was done at 5.3. The 16M and 32M at 4.8, all others at 4.7
