ok over the past month or so I have been trying to solve a problem with my win7 installation (build 7232.0.1md64fre.winmain.0980610-1900)

after a fresh install I had to find the smu drivers for my biostar MB and windows installed it's own video driver 8.15.11.8585 dated april 09. the gfx card is a 9800GTX+ has the bios 62.92.56.0.6.

now since then I haven't been able to install any of nvidias driver updates and windows own driver update for my my gfx card, what happens is I install the driver then my system reeboots and as the driver loads after reeboot I simply get a blue screen error :sarc:

I have tried various methods of unninstalling the drivers first and also using "drivercleaner.net" and also unninstalling my antivirus but none of these make any difference I still get the blue screen error "System_Service_Exception" stop 0x0000003B etc etc file mentioned is "nvlddmkm.sys"

now I can continue to use the OS by going into safe mode and removing the driver and letting windows install the default driver, but the tweaker in me is determined to get to the route cause of this problem :geek:

Is this something specific to this build or do I have a corrupted driver file somewhere or is there something simple I need to do with possibly the registry

If anyone can offer any help I am happy to try :)

Im sure this is not what you want to hear but at some point it might just be easier to clean install a much newer build like 7600. I know they are a PITA but it might get rid of your bsod's. Im sure willing to sweat this until you want to give up so just let us know.

hehe like minds so i have done a clean install on a spare partition of win 7600 and installed nothing else. windows installed the gfx card driver and I then installed the coprocessor driver from my manufacturers website.

i then attempted to install "190.38_desktop_win7_winvista_64bit_international_whql" driver downloaded from the nvidia site and i got the same BSOD sketch

think this proves it's not version specific and there are no other programs outside of windows that can be interfering

hi when you do a fresh install disconnect you network cable while doing the fresh install
when it finishes the install start the update screen and change the settings to download but do not install
then just hide the updates you dont want to install

i have just installed the latest nvidia drivers without a blue screen
do you have 9500 or the 9800 you show in your specs

cheers brad

oops mistake in first post corrected now I have 9800gtx+ as shown in my specs :sarc:

I have tried with network cable disconnected although the origonal windows drivers from the disc are the ones being installed and I still can't find a way to stop them

I am beggining to beleive the chipset drivers may be the route of the problem as everytime I get the blue screen installing nvidia drivers it also trashes the chipset driver "Nvidia nForce System Management Controller"

I'm going through the same thing with my 8800GTS, will just crash with the same error over and over again on boot. And you can't disable the driver from installing because it loads the generic version. and once that is loaded you can't install over it until you reboot....

But, once you reboot you get teh blue screen so you have to boot into safe mode, remove them and reboot.... Well your stuck in a loop because before you can start installing the nvidia driver the generic drivers are installed and you have to reboot again......

well just installed the enterprise edition on my system in it's own test partition and with automatic updates it will install boot the desktop then bsod crash after installing updates, and I cannot even recover into safe mode

with a fresh install with auto updates turned off It installs to full desktop and installs the windows drivers then when I attempt to install the latest Nvidia drivers it crashes with a bsod

I can't find any newer bios for my mobo or chipset drivers ?

this is not looking great so far

well I get the problem with all builds of the drivers post 185.85 and I doubt it's PSU which is a 650watt
