Solved GFX card drivers crash when playing graphic intensive games

About 7 months ago, i had to RMA a graphics card cause it kept causing BSOD's. The graphics card I had received from EVGA seemed to be dead on arrival so I RMA'd that one as well. The next one(my current graphics card) worked for about 6 months. About a couple days ago it started to get intense artifacting then the display driver will crash receiving the typical message of "display driver crashed due to taking to long to respond"- but it mostly crashes playing mildly graphic intensive games, sometimes i get crashes just being on the desktop, but it's rare


So far i have tried

Installed new drivers
Reinstalled windows
Reseated GPU's the ram as well
updated bios

My system

Motherboard:
Asus p8z68v/gen3

Processor:
i7 CPU 2600k


Memory:
Corsair 8GB RAM

Hard Drive:
500 Seagate

Video Card:
Evga 660

PSU:
corsair cx750m

Operating System:
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

150F for my gpu and my cpu maxes out at 158f at the time of the crash.

wltr, I asked to have this moved to the BSOD section for you. Do you use a XBOX controller with your computer?

MijXfilt.sys driver is causing this. I am kind of new to BSOD checking, so I'm sure somewhere will verify.

I use a ps3 controller and use drivers to make it behave like a xbox controller

Okay, unplug the controller, delete the drivers, then reboot. Plug it back in and re-install. Then monitor to see if this resolves it. Edit: Found this old thread when googling the driver

I tried that and it seemed to get rid of my system crashing entirely, but I still get artifacting and game crashes edit: after the graphic crashes i noticed that some parts of the UI elements of programs don't load correctly e.g ( the back button on firefox doesn't appear)

Try to re-install the gfx driver, use this method

You may also have to lower in game settings.

Doing a clean driver install did nothing as well. When I was uninstalling the display driver my screen went black and had to do a hard reset. My computer seems to run fine playing older games like quake, but when i start up something like dishonored the game crashes in 5 mins. p.s I had already tried putting my games on the lowest setting possible to no avail

I am starting to doubt the graphics card. Do you have a spare card to try, or a friends? Are you overclocking?


Look in you BIOS and post a screenshot of your voltages, usually F12 will copy the bios screen to a usb stick

As of now i don't have access to a spare graphics card all i have is the onboard. No I am not overclocking. Kept getting errors trying to upload the bmp file, so had to zip it.

Okay lets try something. Underclock the core on your gpu about 50-100mhz and see if the artifacting goes away

both the artifacting and the crashing have gone away, although there are still microstutters here and there
