Linux's primary and majority market are Server's, they dont develop for home users much if at all the majority of the time... He is right though, Linux includes a lot of "crap" software in comparison with similar applications on Windows or OSX and I dont plan on using Linux for anything other than servers anytime soon because face it, at this moment Linux is just "crap" for my mum/dad/friends and family who just want things to just "work" like their tv and dvd player and they dont want to spend hours trying to figure out what xorg.conf is let alone what it actually does if their new flat screen doesn't do the resolution they want or after a driver update, the same can be said about Wine or Cedega when their new game doesn't play and they have to spend hours trying to figure out why DirectX doesn't install :sarc:

The patches CK (Kernel Dev) developed where designed primarily for getting the maximum performance of our desktop machines for home users/multimedia applications amongst other things but where subsequently dropped form the kernel and CK has since quit the Kernel team, Linux kernel devs couldn't really care about Home users so I dont care about Linux at home

IE8 usage will go up as as new PCs roll out.

"Nobody" is using it right now sarc because it is an optional upgrade for the existing installed PC base (XP and Vista). Most consumers won't upgrade from IE7 to IE8 anymore than they will "upgrade" to FF or Opera. They don't care, don't know and don't care to know.

I routinely uninstall Safari from PCs. Ask the user why they installed it and the answer will most often be "What is Safari?". It gets installed by default with various Apple updates.

The only way a number of apps get installed is because the update for a needed app includes a checkbox that states "YES, I would like to try ABX software for a new experience in blah, blah, blah" and the install checkbox is "On" by default. Most users don't know to uncheck it. The worst offenders are toolbars. Ever see a user with 6 toolbars? They are the ones complaining that the internet has slowed down and their screen is full of crap...

IE8 will be used and most people will be perfectly happy with it.

Think back to IE 6 and the answer is provided! IE 6 was nothing but a large security hole until some of that was patched up with IE 7. IE 8 is definitely a "larger improvement" and much needed!
