Window Vista Sidebar on Windows 7

Anyone who wants to have their old Sidebar back this is how you do it.

First you need to go to your programs folder, not programs (x86), then go to the sidebar folder and take ownership of all the files and give yourself full control.

Once you have done that you can make a copy of the sidebar folder and rename it as sidebar-backup and then delete all your files that you can in the sidebar folder.

Now go to your Vista programs folder and copy the files from that sidebar folder and paste them in your Windows 7 Sidebar folder.

Log off then on again Right click on the screen and select Gadgets and you can put them on again.

Also if you want all your old Gadgets you had installed on Vista, go into the Appdata/Local/Microsoft/Widows Sidebar and copy those files into the same place on Windows 7 and you will then have all your old Gadgets back.

BTW Shawn's "add take ownership to context menu" reg file works on Win7 so that makes the job easier - Context Menu - Take Ownership - Vista Forums

How; on a dual boot on a single HDD? D: is just a storage partition.

No; but that is making me think....:huh:...And it hurts!

So I can copy (using "copy to") the files in question to D: in Vista then copy them from D: to 7?

That's if your Vista drive is showing. Mine is on a separate HDD and originally it wasn't showing up. I had to assign a drive letter to my Vista HDD to gain access.


I must be the only one who isn't missing the sidebar itself...

Windows 7 has the Sidebar Gadgets only now.

Oh, I like and use the gadgets. I just never liked the sidebar itself. that's why I'm not missing it

Now if somebody can get the taskbar to run on all screens I would be really happy as I dont think ultramon will work.

With the Gadgets, you can drag them to display on separate monitors.
