Nope. They got rid of it. You can install the mail program of your choice, or you can try the Live Mail Beta (Downloads - Windows Live).

Sorry, but Windows Mail is not included, at least not in my 32 bit or 64 bit copy of Windows 7. MS is going to be using Windows Live programs à la carte instead.

Windows Live Mail is a good choice though.

Actually there are Sidebar gadgets that you can use by right clicking on the desktop and selecting them, you can put them anywhere on the desktop but there is not a proper sidebar.

But saying that if you go into programs folder not programs (x86) and go to the sidebar folder and take ownership of the files you then copy over those files with the vista sidebar files and then you can have your sidebar.

How strange Dave. I have not seen a Windows 7 beta version that actually had the Windows Mail EXE file included with it. From everything I read, MS was dumping Windows Mail and was going to have people download and use the Windows Live programs a la carte for Windows 7.

Well, I was about to reinstall but I think, maybe, I,ll wait for the Beta. The promises look good but (I'm a pessimist!) so far the fulfillment does not excite me.

Enabling Windows Mail in Windows 7 Enabling Windows Mail in Windows 7

Some people have been asking about Windows Mail in Windows seven and where they can find it.

The strange thing is it is there but it doesn't do anything when you click on it, so if you do want it this is what you have to do.

First go to folder options and deselect hide protected operating system files and do not show hidden files.

Next go to your programs folder and Windows Mail folder and take Ownership of all the files in there and give yourself FULL control, you will now be able to see the Windows Mail executable file which was previously hidden.

Once you have taken ownership copy all your files from Vista's Windows Mail folder and paste and replace ALL of the files in Windows 7 Mail folder.

That's it and don't try to click on the original hidden WinMail.exe file, if you do you will not be able to replace it as it will run and you wont see anything but you will still still need to kill the process in task manager.

Also I forgot mention that that to use the program, Right click on the WinMail.exe file and send a shortcut to the desktop then rename it to Windows Mail.

Then go to you start button and right click on the startup folder and select properties then location and click on find target and move your short cut to that folder and then click on pin to start menu.
