Hi, I use Windows Mail 6.1.7600. My PC specs are:

Dual boot windows 7 (default) and 11
i5 6500 cpu
16GB ram
500GB WD SSD
I have a problem with the mail program not showing HTML pics in email. I use Gmail and with webmail everything is perfect. However when it arrives via POP in the mail program the HTML pics are missing.

I have tried everything I can find online but it has not cured the problem. Can the version of windows mail that I am using show htmlpics ? Maybe it is just to old ?

If anybody knows why this is happening please respond.

Thanks
Dave

Windows mail is so old I would go with something else like maybe Thunderbird. Download — Thunderbird Make sure to change the OS to Windows 7 in the dropdown.

I have tried Thunderbird a couple of times before and although it is supported I don't like the GUI. I also have MS outlook but I like that even less. So will stick with Windows Mail for now.

Check its settings to see if it has images and other embeeded content disabled.
Mail clients usually default to this due to the security and privacy risk such images pose, but you can always opt to show them.

Have tried everything that I can find online including the options settings on windows mail and they are correct. I really just wondered if anyone else who is still using windows mail has the same problem

I have to agree with townsbg, Windows Mail is just too old. Windows Live Mail is actually what came with Windows 7, and is likely to still work. You would need to find an archive to download it, however. That of course is up to you, whether you want to risk downgrading from an unauthorized site.

But even if you do, remember Live Mail is no more supported now than Mail, so there could be security risks. There are other alternatives besides Thunderbird, such as em client and Mailspring. It's a shame Live Mail is not supported, I really liked it. Personally, I use Proton Mail, a web-based program that prioritizes security.

I installed thunderbird today to give me another email client for testing. I saved one email from Windows mail inbox to a store folder. I then opened it with windows mail and results the same however with thunderbird, after enabling remote content, it displayed perfectly. From this I would say that Windows Mail downloads all of the email from the mail server but chooses to not display some items. So far I have been unable to find any way around this

Thunderbird is probably your best option. I did not like em Client or Mailspring. Both too bloated.

Finnally found what was required thanks to this post on here "No images showing in Windows Live Mail" All I had to do was to install MS Explorer and everything came good. I noticed that in mail > tools > options > security it says "Select the internet explorer security zone to use" Should have twigged this earlier ! Many thanks to SiXPaCk1.

Keep in mind that public email providers might decide to limit or even disable support for old clients. Personally I don't use email clients except for work. If google does decide to lock out Windows mail they'll start filtering it out of oauth2 and then emails will no longer sync. Windows mail on 7 doesn't even have oauth2.
