hey all, just loaded win7RC 32bit on my desktop. i wiped out the Fedora 10 that i was using on it with my USB wireless G adapter. the wireless worked great with Fedora. i use a Netgear N gateway wireless router for my 2 laptops and another Vista desktop. i have no connection problems with anything.

Now--i cannot connect with Win7 RC. i go to my selection of wireless networks and it shows my gateway as strong and available (lots of green bars).

i have a key password that is used for my system but Win7 does not recognize this key. it's a long word that i customized 6 months ago and has been used by friends that come by with their laptops.

NOW---win7 keeps saying over and over it's not recognized? i have unplugged/replugged, rebooted, USB wireless adapter driver says it's updated, etc. to get it to work......

help-----what do i do next? :sarc: thanks....

After the obvious re-boots of the pc and router. Have you tried dis-abling encryption just to see if it works in the clear?

thx zag,

yup i went in and disabled the DEP encryption. only one i found. then rebooted and nada.

turned off the local firewall--nada

manually added that computer with the pass key i use---nada

the MOBO is an old A7N8X of which i had to add sata drivers before Win7 would install. this off the original Asus install disk. so i checked the devices and there was a yellow flag in the ethernet controller section.
hmmmmm, so i added more drivers from the old Asus disk---nada.

maybe some updated Asus ethernet controller drivers? i'm off to look for them.....

ok--but i don't wanna knock others off with a long wait. is resetting the router to default mean creating a new pass key---for all 4 of my computers?

JW

A router reset takes abt 5 minutes. You can enter the same passkey but it might be whats causing the problem. Also after a re-set you need to go in the router web page and change the user ID and pword from default to whatever you had before (unless you didnt change it before).

Even worse! Means setting up your whole internet setting, provider password, PPP settings, wireless setting, the whole shebang.

Seems a bit much to me for only one computer not connecting to wireless.

Try bringing the computer to the router and connect through a cable.

See if that works, then we can go from there.

Provide us with screenshot of command prompt after entering IPCONFIG/ALL

Thats a good starting point.

hey SQ

thats assuming they arent already on default (admin, admin) and not PPOE. Your idea is easier so I would second it.

Hi Ken,

Maybe you have a self configuring modem/router but a lot of people don't.

After a reset the modem doesn't know anything. They will have to put in the provider name, the login from the provider, the password.
then they will have to choose PPPOE or PPPOA or Bridged and a few more variants.
I have ETHoA, another variant.
They will have to setup IP ranges etcetera.

With some modems it can be a real b*tch resetting.

Since he has no problems with the other computers connecting, we have to assume it is in the wireless settings of the computer in question.

And I suspect Win7 RC of being the culprit, because it worked with XP.

Greetz.

I agree thats why I seconded your post. I keep forgeting that for me a modem reset is 2 mins. Lets hope your idea works so we dont have to find out.

it worked ok in Fedora but the USB wireless adapter is D-link and the Gateway is Netgear. shouldn't be a problem i guess.....(but this is windows not linux :))

i have a 50 ft cable i gotta dig out for emergencies....it might be easier than bringing the other PC back here....(i think)

anyway--will try and report back. BTW-- i have grown a beard over this and it's grey---yeooow! thanks guys.
